Photoshop auto enhance or Enhance Edge in batch

Explorer ,
Jan 05, 2022 Jan 05, 2022

Hi

I want to auto enhance a large group of photos in photoshop or photoshop express.

I do not want to open each individual photo and auto enhance and save or export.

I want to be able to do them all in a batch. Possible to write the original file also.

Is that possible ?

Any help would be nice.

Thanks

Pedro

Files format are jpeg and heic

Where can I find Adobe Camera Raw Plug-in ? (maybe this one is more automate than the others)

If I want to overwrite the original file with the enhanced one, how can I do it ?

Not sure about Photoshop Express, never used it.

Yes, there are many ways to do this in Photoshop. What file format are the photos?

Various options for bulk processing include:

* Adobe Camera Raw Plug-in (raw camera files, jpeg, tiff, heic only)

* Recording an Action and using the Automate > Batch command to run the action

* Recording an Action and using the Automate > Create Droplet command to run the action

* Recording an Action and using the Scripts > Image Processor command to run the action

* Recording an Action and using the Automate > Image Processor Pro script (not installed by default, it's a free 3rd party tool)

* Custom script

The Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plug-in is installed by default with Photoshop.

On the Mac, use the Photoshop menu > Preferences > Camera Raw (probably under the Edit menu on Windows). Go to the File Handling option and change the drop-down menu option to "Automatically Open All Supported JPEG and HEICs".

I personally would use Adobe Bridge to select the various files for the batch, then use the CMD/CTRL R key to open the selected files from Bridge into ACR. You can then select all files in the ACR interface (CMD/CTRL A) and right click on the selected thumbnail images in the "filmstrip" area and sync the settings among all selected images, then use upper toolbar the icon to save the batch.

This is not a complete step by step tutorial, just an overview. You will need to look into the documentation on how to apply adjustments etc.

I answered in your other post on batch processing. Perhaps you missed the reply? Presuming that this is for a batch of images:

File > Scripts > Image Processor

That does not keep the metadata information. Like GPS location and others.

You could have just continued in that topic, but now that there is a new post I'll no longer reply in that topic thread.

EDIT: Did a moderator just merge the two topics?

If you are using the Quick Export or Export As commands, there is only limited support at this time for metadata. These commands are not suitable for batching.

Save fully supports metadata and Export > Save for Web (Legacy) has support for all metadata, none or other more limited options.

As this discussion originally started with batch processing, I thought that you were talking about saving files with metadata while batching.

In my tests, the default Image Processor script that ships with Photoshop retains metadata, including GPS data.

The 3rd party optional "Image Processor Pro" script, which I didn't recommend to keep things easy, does has an option to use save for web, which would strip metadata, but one does not have to use that option and it too could retain metadata.

After same testing.

I think that the problem is with files .HEIC

When I open them with photoshop it does not load the metadata information.

I can see the metadata in properties of the file, and for example in bridge it shows all the metadata exif and gps.

It seams that photoshop do not read that information from .HEIC files.

Could this be the problem ?

Not for me, I'm on a Mac if that makes a difference, and just happened to test a HEIC file from a recent iPhone with GPS and other metadata. The JPEG saved from Image Processor had all of the metadata retained when I opened the JPEG back into Photoshop and used File > File Info to inspect.

And yes I would like to batch a lot of files. Do image processing and export them to jpeg.

Image Processor script works fine with original jpeg files, and export the metadata in that files.

But when it open .HEIC files, it does not export the metadata, as I said I think it does not load that information from the file.

Well IP works for me with HEIC.

As does Image Processor Pro (IPP):

https://sourceforge.net/projects/ps-scripts/files/Image%20Processor%20Pro/v3_2%20betas/

It would also be possible to use a custom script to save to JPEG including metadata from batches of open files, or a source folder etc.

When I open the original file on photoshop it does not have any information abou it.

I can't add .HEIC files as an attachament. So you can try it.

The metadta opens into Photoshop's File > File Info fine, I have redacted the GPS data, but you can see that it is there:

heic-meta1.png

heic-meta2.png

At one point in time I seem to remember that Photoshop didn't have native HEIC support and relied on underlying OS CODECs, but I haven't paid much attention to all of that. If that is the case, it would explain the difference between Mac and Windows. I am using Photoshop 2021 in this example.

I'm using Photoshop 23.1.0

Yes the problem seams to be that Photoshop does not load that information in my confgiuration.

I'll do some reasearch about codec and see where it leads me.

Thanks

It would be possible to batch copy and transfer metadata from the HEIC files to JPEG versions using ExifTool, but that would be a last resort.

EDIT: Looks like an OS level CODEC is required, I would have thought that this would be native to Photoshop by now:

I'll use a 3th party software to convert all the HEIC to jpeg format with all metadata.

And after that user the photoshop to batch process all the files in jpeg format.

thanks
