Hi,

I updated PS yesterday and everytjing was fine, but today suddenly I got big brush lags. With smoothing on or off, no difference.

Lag gets even worse while zooming above 50%.

I've restarted preferences and PC and nothing happens.

I'm losing half a day trying to figure it out and its really nervous situation. Any ideas how to fix it?

SOLVED THE PROBLEM

It looks like Adobe, if I'm not mistaken, added a new option in the 2019 version and by default, it's on. What worked for me is turning off "Enable Preserve Details 2.0 Upscale" under the Technology Preview preference. Let me know if this works for you guys.

It just took Photoshop SIX FULL MINUTES to "render" this small bit of brushwork on a large image for a layer mask. SIX MINUTES, on a computer with 8GB of RAM and a good graphics card. Adobe, I am getting more than a little tired of Adobe engineers using PAYING CUSTOMERS as lab rats for pre-release versions of products that we pay GOOD MONEY FOR. This is how some of us MAKE OUR LIVING - you are stealing from us. MAKE THIS RIGHT.

After heaving an almost heart attack and enraging like a WOW Boss I tried the following version: Edit-Preferences-General - Reset Preferences on Quit. Restart your computer. It should work now.

My brush was working fine before zooming in. Then it just pans around. Even when i zoomed out, the brush is still not working.

I've tried all the solution here but still nothing is working. I can only make dots. Can't even have a proper brush stroke. But when i was typing this sentence and went back to PS to try again it was working properly. Then went and zoom in again and got back to original problem. It's like i have to go to another application for a few seconds before i can use the brush properly and can never zoom in again.

I have a Lenovo with Windows 10 Home, i7, 16GB, 2.8Ghz , TX 1050Ti, 4GB VRAM, Dual monitor, Wacom Intous Pro.

But when i was having that problem while using wacom pen, I tried the brush with my mouse and the brush works properly. Maybe a problem with Wacom? But i already switched off everything in my control panel>Pen & ink. And my wacom doesn't have any problem with other applications.

Hope this helps with any Adobe IT out there.

Please send help! I can not not zoom in when detailing. And i just have a really bad habit of zooming in every 30secs.

Hi

This is a different issue you are describing and has been answered numerous times over the last couple of days

You have two choices

1. Use notepad to create a text file and type in :

# Use WinTab

UseSystemStylus 0

2. Save the file as PSUserConfig.txt in the following location

C: > Users > Username > AppData > Roaming > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 > Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 Settings

3. Go to the Wacom tablet properties and for Photoshop under Mapping  uncheck "Use Windows Ink"

Or

1 Select everything inside the quotes here (don't include the quotes): “reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pen /v LegacyPenInteractionModel /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f”

2 Copy it with Ctrl + C on the keyboard.

3 Type Windows Key + X (together), a menu will appear

4 Then type "A" on the keyboard. That will give you an elevated administrator PowerShell command prompt.

5 Paste the command you copied into that window with Ctrl + V

6 Hit "Enter" on the keyboard

7 Reboot

Also, have such problem: brush lag on Photoshop 19.1.3 on Mac os

I was working and in a few seconds, my brush began to render slowly than I work. First, I thought that the reason is my tablet, but this problem exists even when I draw with mouse.

I Install the older version and that is good working.

My problem is a little bit different, I've experienced no brush lagging, but BRUSH DOES NOT WORKING

Whenever I changed my brush, it doesn't appear for a few second or sometimes, a few minutes later, even set SMOOTHING to 0% doesn't solve the problem, Reset Preference to Quit doesn't work, either.

Just before the latest update, CC2018 still working perfectly, and now the bug keep annoy me for hours.

The lag (or whatever it is) occur in both Cintiq and ASUS as well, it happen with PTS only while the other graphic softwares still working normal.

More over, sometimes the brushes automatically change into Hand Tool and it moves the whole screen (not only my working file, but THE WHOLE PTS SCREEN), I dunno what to call it but imagine you're painting and the brush doesn't work, instead the cursor just pull your screen up and down meaninglessly.

If anyone know how to fix these problem, it would be a great help for not only me, but also people who suffer the same problem

Thank you.

I think some users get confused about the SMOOTHING function and what lagging means.

My issue is not the smoothing - since I know that function from other softwares some years now (PS was embedding this function rather late)
My issue is the lag of the brush/cursor. Means: When I set the smoothing to 0% I still receive a lag on the brushstroke or a lag when I move a text element - that's my issue.

Let's all hope this will be fixed soon...

I'm having issue myself a weird one actually lol. when ever I'm using the brush tool when I want to draw, it move up and down or left to right as if I'm using the grab tool It does the same thing with all the tools except for layers. I can't seem to figure out the problem, but when I install photoshop cc 2017 i don't have this issue at all. Do anybody know the reason why this problem occurring?

Same! This is ridiculous. We pay money for this product. I have a wacom at work and i've NEVER had this issue in any of my apps. So frustrating!

It is frustrating. Once I took smoothing to 0% the lag stopped for me.

Hello,

I had this same problem.  I have found that if you have Smoothing or Dual Brush enabled in the Brush Settings, you will get a great deal of lag when zoomed in.   Once these options were disabled, my brush acted normally.

Hope this helps your problem.

I got the CC 2018 running on two systems - an older one and a brand new workstation.
It's not the system - this is for sure - because everything worked flawless until I installed the CC2018 version.
I recently had the feeling that also the whole system might lag in general - other apps as well - and this occured right after I installed the 2018 version.

However - I really am sick of all those solutions like "turn off this and switch on this"
I am paying for a program to use as is. I am paying for a programm to make money. I use a high end software to work with and fulfil deadlines and such things.
I am not paying to become a beta tester.
I rather stick with the same version for years before I have to use a buggy version.

I just switched back to CC 2017 and guess what? The lag is gone!

No lag with brush strokes, no lag with moving elements...

Please ADOBE - FIX your software!

Yeah...Agreed.

The only way I can get 2018 to work is if I torn off the Graphics processor and that still doesn't work great. The lag is worse with a bigger file...but it shouldn't be happening. I have another system with 2017 and it works fine.
