Photoshop CC and Windows 7

Community Beginner ,
Aug 26, 2018 Aug 26, 2018

Hi, apologies in advance if this question has already been discussed, but does Photoshop CC run on Windows 7? I know Lightroom CC does not run on Windows 7, but would I be able to use Adobe Camera Raw which comes with Photoshop CC on my Windows 7 system?

Thanks you. Tom

Do I need to uninstall my current version of Photoshop (CS5) before I download Photoshop CC, or will it overwrite it automatically once I've downloaded it?

Thank you.

Hi Tom:

If you don't remove CS5, it will still be installed after you install CC. You can remove CS5 now, later or leave them both installed. If it were me, I'd wait until CC is up and running before uninstalling CS5.

Thanks Barb, that's really helpful. I'll leave CS5 on until I know everything runs smoothly with CC.

If you later decide to uninstall CS5, I'd recommend first uninstalling CC, then uninstall CS5, then reinstall CC.

A fairly common problem is that the earlier version takes file associations with it, leaving them orphaned. They will not be handed over to a "future" version that CS5 doesn't know about. The net result is that you can't get files to open in Photoshop CC by double-clicking them.

Yeah, I know, this shouldn't happen, but it does. It's a regular question here in the forum. If you find yourself in this situation, you probably need to uninstall/reinstall anyway.

The safe way to do this is to always install and uninstall in strict version sequence. Last in, first out and so on.
