Photoshop crashes and freezes

Whatever I try, which ever update I try, the latest PS will only start up with a beach ball and that ever since version 22.x

On a MBA 2020 Big Sur 11.4 I7 16GB

What I tried:

- deleted preferences

- uninstalled and reinstalled

- reverted to version 21.X well that worked but updating results in the same crash.

What to do next?

Hi all,

We're sorry for the crash issue. Take a look at the following troubleshooting article and try the first 6 simple steps that can help you resolve most of the crash and freeze issues with Photoshop:  Troubleshoot crash or freeze | Photoshop

If that doesn't help then, take a look at the other troubleshooting tips section.

Let us know your feedback.

Thanks,

Mohit

I have students who are running into the same problems.

Does anyone know where I can find this script to run on a Windows PC?

Don't suppose you've managed to get anywhere have you?

It does appear to be a Mac issue, i don't have an issue at all at work using the Adobe CC suite.

Lucky you! I wanted to keep my Photoshop CC and they wouldn't let me after Adobe shut me down saying there was a billing issue. (Automatic draft on my credit card the week before, so there actually was no billing issue.) They said they would no longer support the version I was working on. Now I have this new version and it crashes constantly. This has slowed my productivity TREMENDOUSLY! I'm not happy at all!

When I first had this issue, this thread didn't exist. Very glad it does now. I was so baffled how I could be the only one with this problem.

The working yet unideal solution for me has been reinstall the previous version of Photoshop and Illustrator (2020) and operate those, business as usual.

DETAILS

Problem: Photoshop 2021 usually crashes within moments of it being open on a Mid 2015 Mac operating Catalina. Sometimes smaller files will stay open for longer, though it will always crash after using either the text tool, or pasting a vector smart object from Illustrator. Seperate yet similar crashing issues with Illustrator 2021.

Solution: I spent over 3 hours on a virtual chat with an Adobe support specialist who in that time tried uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop 2021, amongst some other things (it was 3+ hours a few weeks ago, I'm don't remember the play-by-play exactly). Nothing we (he operating my mac virtually) tried worked. Eventually, he informed me that the issue was with my graphics card and that the solution was simply to reinstal an older version of Photoshop and stick with that until I update my hardware. Seemed odd that he wouldn't have noticed my inferior graphics capabilities before spending so long trying to find other solutions, but I needed to move on and get to work. I've remained curious and would love to get to the bottom of this. We all do have the same graphics card. I'm just not convinced that's the issue.

I'm using Catalina on Macbook Pro. I uninstalled 2021 and installed a previous version. The interface is different (and not for the better) but I'm not getting any crashes. I installed 2020 and will wait a while before updating, that's for sure.

I also am having the crashing issue when I am linking to NIK Viveza. I also cannot link to anything when I click "Share". Did not have the "Share" issue until yesterday.

Does Adobe even read this forum?

Why doesn't anyone of team reply or notice this?

Yeah, they're aware of the issues but from what I've read they're having a hard time recreating them. I suggested they recall v22.1 for now since so, so many people are having problems with it, but as of this moment it's still up and they're touting it at the top of the forum.

I'm also having the same problem, which started after the most recent update (v22.1). I'm on an older 2013 MacPro running Catalina (10.15.7). Photoshop opens fine into the launcher screen, but after opening a PSD file it crashes without warning after about 30 seconds. No warning, no error messages, and no unexpected crash screens. It's just gone. I tried resetting permissions, and working remotely instead of from the server, but always the same results.

I just started having this problem PS 2021 will crash during first things I start to do,  90% of the time.   Intermittently, it seems to work for almost a minute, then crashes.......weird.   I have a new this year Mac Book Pro Catalina 10.15.5, very frustrating.   I tried resetting preferences, online, offline.  Hopefully there's a fix for this soon.  All my other apps work just fine!

un-install 2021 and install 2020 from Creative Cloud using the pull down menu (3dots). 2021 is buggy. The 2020 interface is different from the version I was using, but at least Pshop is now working!!

Exactly the same thing I did a few days ago.
I'm loving 2021's interface, new features and all, but it keeps crashing.
It is affecting my work and it is very annoying.
Good thing we can go back to the previous versions.

I hope Adobe can give us a fix soon!

I have the same issue. Impossible to work in Photoshop 2021. I fully updated the new 21 version and I'm running macOS Big Sur. After a couple of minutes doing a task in Photoshop the wheel just starts spinning and it crashes. How can it be fixed?

Revert back to an earlier version. I went back to version 21.2.4 and it's working fine so far.

Same problem. It's really frustrating after a few days.   If I can't use it, why would they charge me ...?    just trying to make a living here...

The v22.1.1 update that was just released seems to have fixed the crashing problem for me. Thanks Adobe!

Was having the same issue. The 22.1.1 update seems to have stopped the crashing but now when I go to export a file it won't let me change the name of the file in the dialogue box. The system just 'beeps' at me if I try to click in the file name box or change anything. Amazing...
