Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem with my student edition version of photoshop CS5. For some unknown reason the brush tool randomly stops drawing lines that I command it to do (using my tablet pen) and will correct itself when I open another program (any program). Instead of drawing a curve, it will just draw a straight line and half the time not even for very far. I cant figure out for the life of me what is causing this problem. My laptop isnt on stickykeys or anything like that and I am running windows 7 64 bit with 8 gig of ram..
THANKYOU SO MUCH in advance if you can help a student in need of doing her homework!

Isn't your "shift" key stuck?

No it's not stuck at all

I'd uninstall the tablet then and check for updated drivers.

Thanks for your help, but I have only just installed the tablet and gone to the website to install the latest drivers for it. I'm 99% certain that the tablet isnt the problem. Any other suggestions you could think of would be appreciated ![]()

Not sure if this will help, but what happens if you disable opengl or set it to basic?

opengl? Is that a program in task manager or in the photoshop system folder? I did a search on my comp and couldnt find that file name..

OpenGL is a function of the video card and it can be activated/de-activated in Photoshop – Edit > Preferences > Performance.

Thanks for your help. Eventually i figured out that it was in fact a windows 7 64 bit problem. My drawing tablet was incapable of working in this mode unfortunately. I have a wacom now and it is running smoothly. Was quite a head boggler. ![]()

What wacom tablet did you get? I'm haveing the exact same issue. I've been calling adobe support for the past 2 days and they don't seem to have a solution to this problem ![]()
Maybe I can get the same tablet you have if I can't get the Hanvon to work.

I too have that problem. Not only does the lines get straight randomly (sometimes for more than one line and sometimes only for one) but also loses the pen pressure. I have a Waccom Bamboo, Windows XP and Photoshop CS5, and it hever happened before with CS2, on the same computer and with the same tablet!
Is this a common problem? I don't think it has anything to do with the shift key in my case.

Hm, it sounds like windows XP might be the problem. It is a bit too old I think to run adobe cs5 well. Have you managed to fix this problem? I'd suggest getting windows vista or 7. as far as i know, any wacom tablet should work with any adobe suite... from my EXTENSIVE research on the internet to try and solve this problem without having to pay a lot of money for a new tablet.
Hope this helps in some way!

Thanks alot for the advices!
I tried with downloading the new driver to my wacom, and it seemed to
work. Havn't had more problem with it, even though I still don't trust
the functions of CS5 as much as I used to trust Photoshop. But I guess
it will be a learning process.
Thanks again for the kindness!
Best regards,
Natalia

Hi, sorry for such a late reply. My emails showed your questions as spam so I didn't even know until i checked my junk mail recently.
Anyway, I solved the problem by getting an intuos4 ( the newest affordable wakom out), which stung me for about 400 bucks. It was a windows 7 issue because hanvon didn't support windows 7 (yet.) It's an incredibly frustrating program which backs you into a corner to either get a new and older version operating system, or get a new tablet. both which are expensive.
Hope this helps, and let me know if you solved your problem in any other way.

Did you solve the problem? And if you did, how did you solve it?
I have the same problem you have/had, lots of people have this issue...

Accually I still have this problem. The lines randomly becomes straight and when it do, I simply either wait it out or change to annother tool and then change back to the brush and hope it's solved.
I'm wondering if it have something to do with the computer prestanda, because it almost seems like the computer gets tired and Photoshop runs ahead. Then the line simply ens up becoming a straight dot-to-dot line, more easy for the computer to generate than the nice flowy lines I accually am trying to make. It feels like that especially when I draw many lines quickly and some of them becomes straight and some not. Or am I wrong?
Is this a prestanda problem? Because the installation didn't complain at my computer being below the requirements...

Okay, then there is a difference, I only have this issue when I use my Wacom intuos4 wireless in the wireless mode, when connected via usb there is nothing wrong.
Grr I cant stand it ![]()

Hello! you should post your issues about your wireless tablet in the Wacom forum. Maybe do you get some interferences.

Already did so....

The installation may not have any problems. However, everything combined, as a whole, may be using up the same resource when in use.
Works ok with USB and not with wireless is a pretty big hint. Could be as simple as line of sight of the receiver and the receiver needs to be out in the open more. I have seen this with wireless mice and keyboards.

Hey, I solved this problem and I believe it is an operating system issue where my tablet didn't support windows 7. From my extensive reading online, the majority of 'generic' brands aside from wacom suffer from this problem using the adobe suite cs5 and windows 7. I was really backed into a corner and ended up getting an intuos 4 wacom to solve my problem. Ive also read that theres problems with the wireless version so I opted to get the version with the wires.
hope this helps

Allso have this from time to time.
The brush loses response and does little short straight lines here and there, it's a software glitch. I usually save my document when that happens, this usually snaps it out of it but a few times I had to wait then save again. I used to be able to just swap apps or click on layers or something but that doesn't work anymore.
XP 32bit
CS5 32bit
I had the same promlem with CS4 trial, with my old Manhattan tablet and with my new Intuo's. I think it's a bug that comes in from time to time with panel, window focus changes. Or Id get up to fetch a cup of coffee and when I come back it's like that.

What kind of tablet do you use? Ive also read a lot and it seems people have this problem with older versions. It seems that adobe might not have made cs5 with windows xp users in mind. if I were you I would upgrade, but if you're using a generic tablet brand you may run into the same problem that I did.
