Launched Photoshop CS6 this morning, and suddenly it is a trial version of CS6 Extended. I did not ask for this, I do not want this, I bought, paid for and registered the regular version on the day it was released. I am not renting the software via that stupid creative clod thing, I bought it the regular way. What is happening here? Is this going to happen every time they release a minor update? How do I make it go away?
Today we released Photoshop update version 13.0.4 (for Mac perpetual customers) and version 13.1.2 (for Creative Cloud members, Mac and Windows), resolving this licensing issue:
How to get the Update
1. In Photoshop, choose Help > Updates.
2. The Adobe Application Manager will launch. Select Adobe Photoshop CS6 and choose Update.

Well, it did not work. After I closed PS and re-opened it, the problem was back. This time I had to enter the serial number twice, before it let me use the program.
Rafael Aviles wrote:
Thank you very much. I did this and it seems to have solved the problem. However, I will have to wait until I close/relaunch PS to see if it really did solve the problem. (In my case, entering the serial number seemed to fix the problem, but after a couple of close/relaunch cycles, it came back.)

I spent an hour on the phone with Adobe support yesterday and got a fix.
In short, it required DELETING the file /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD/cache
then rebooting.
For me, it worked!!!!

Same here.
16 days without a solution, problem keeps coming back. Support: non existant. And the trial days run out. I'm no happy customer!

You should know it's going to be another week before anything happens... Adobe is completely shut down, as they typically are, between Christmas and New Year.
Sungyle, I apologize for assuming you had not tried activating the software again, and I CERTAINLY don't think it's acceptable that you must re-enter your serial number repeatedly, but the "Answer" shown at the top of this thread does answer the specific question you posed, "what then?"
Are you not able to paste your serial number into the Adobe dialog (e.g., after copying from a document you keep handy)? Re-entering it by hand over and over again seems extreme if that's possible.

We will just have to sit tight and wait. Adobe really is a great company and has served us well in the past. They are on holiday now, which is understandable (and probably well deserved).
This will eventually be fixed. I am just worried about using up my serial numbers. Does anyone know how to "refresh" the numbers? I only have CS6 Extended installed on my mac (1 computer) but since this problem, I have entered my Serial Number at least 2 times, probably more - I am not sure which ones counted as one time I was not connected to the internet.

That is a good point. I am planning on getting a new desktop computer soon and was going to use that for my second computer to install my whole suite on. I hope rentering the serial number all these times doesn't interfere with that.

That's a legitimate concern. You will probably ultimately have to call customer support if you end up with trouble with your activation count.
Many folks dread calling customer support, but for activation issues with the current version they're usually quite good at resolving issues.

Re-activating on the same computer should not count against the activation limit.
If you do run into a problem, call Customer Support.

Makes perfect sense, and my software works that way as well - but to be fair Photoshop shouldn't deactivate itself on the same computer to start with, so who knows what's going to happen when there's this kind of bug in play?
Adobe should certainly strive to fix any issues caused by this kind of problem without customers having to ask. I hope that's possible.

Agree, but I could not wait and I was very tired of re-entering the serial number. So I uninstalled/installed PS CS6 from my CD, and updated to 13.0.1 as was suggested earlier in this thread. Problem solved, it took less than 15 minutes.

Dear Noel,
I actually found out that there is no need to enter any numbers (or, may be, there is no point entering any numbers). I just click the red "close" button left hand upper corner and the pop up window will close, CS6 extended trial version will run and while waiting for Godot, nothing to be done; let's go, we can't, ah! Nothing to be done; let's go, we can't, ah!
We will help each other get up.
Hug,
Cheers,
Bottoms up.

After trying the "Repair Permissions" fix suggested by Barry my CS6 worked OK for a couple of days, then went back to the Trial pop up.
So I've just uninstalled and reinstalled, then updated to 13.0.1 and ACR 7.3 like castl1 was saying.
I must admit that I've already lost the feeling of dread that I had every time I opened CS6.
Uninstall/reinstall wasn't difficult and didn't take much time, mainly because I'm a bit old fashioned and I like to have my software sent to me on a nice solid DVD rather than an intangible download.

Can't speak for Windows but when I clicked on Adobe's un-install CS6 it has an option to include your preferences. If you do not check that option then all of your plugins should be there when you re-install.

Hi Barry
I'm on a windows 7 Professional machine, running the "standard" 64bit version of CS6. I have never installed the 13.0.2 update (and my updater indicates I have the most up-to-date software at version 13.0.1) , but have been having the trial popup issue since i first bought CS6 in October. I have deactivated, uninstalled and reinstalled, I delete the PCD cache on a weekly basis so that it has to recreate it, but I estimate that I am entering my serial number every second time I open CS6 - must have reregistered over 20 tiimes by now.
I don't know how to capture a log for you, but if you tell me what to do, I'd be very happy to send it to you in the hope someone can highlight what my issue is?
Thanks
Oops - sorry Noel - i was replying to Barry earlier in the thread and didn't see your post. So is everyone on this thread a Mac user?
Have there been no reports of (other!) windows users having issues?

Yes, the folks on this thread with problems in 13.0.2+ or 13.1+ are all Mac users.
I've seen very occasional reports of Photoshop not staying activated on a Windows system. I'm sorry to say I don't recall any solutions (that's not to say there weren't any, I just don't recall them).
Given the predominance of the problem with Macs right now, it might be tough for you to turn up more info with a search.

There is a possibility that older issues with activation are related to the same problems that are showing up in the new updates.
We won't know until the activation team determines the exact cause of the problems in their code.
But some members of the Photoshop team are also being affected by this issue, and are well motivated to ensure that it gets fixed correctly, and quickly.

The development team yes! I mean how do you think I feel... Everytime I call adobe tech, feels like i'm giving my pick 4 numbers to the lottery clerk at 7eleven. It bad enough they dont know whta their talking about, but to not even understand how they speak is even worse. So you can put into prespective how the painful process is teaching these people updates on a complicated problem.
You should never blame the development teams, most of the time its the CEO's fault for outsoucing customer service and teach support with people behind computers going throught que cards of various problems people throw at them.
I remember back in the early pc days (Compaq, HP and Dell) before the computer became an every house hold item; having a person who actually knew the software, lived it, breathed it and used it like the consumer did helped the industry boom. Money, greed and steve jobs ruined that. As apple software and hardware boomed, they kepted their american base tech and customer help the same. While other companies like compaq who failed, dell who eventually did the same failed by trying to cut corners and outsourcing to countries like india.
This ruined the pc market and pissed lots of people off, just like this lovely thread. Read my post and understand it as best as you can. This is what happened over 20 years and its happening to adobe until someone new and bigger takes over the market. Until then, we need to sit tight and wait for an answer hopefully.
I think the only way to even have adobe make a move is a class action suite for answer's. Not for $, just for answer's..
We are all paying customers, I know I am and my answers havent been met.

Hi Kirsty:
I am a Win64 Photoshop CS6 subscription user, and I am having this problem. This evening CS6 stopped working entirely - the registration screen would come up, but after I successfully registered, CS6 would not start. I found the instructions to rename the /cache folder (thanks) and that worked - CS6 now starts.

Fortunately I kept the original download installer, so I uninstalled Photoshop CS6 and then installed without the 1 gig download before updating to 13.0.1. So far so good but if I had problems getting that large download for whatever reason I'd be pretty fed up right now. One point possibly worth adding is that I didn't select the option to remove preferences when uninstalling Photoshop, so it all looked the same after reinstalling.

It keeps getting missed because that solution doesn't work. I've removed and reinstalled CS6 3 times now, repaired all permissions, ran Disk Warrior and Onyx on the disk. I've done 19 installs of CS6 in the last two weeks. I've seen the following issues on various machines:
a) Installer won't run past 1% if machine isn't first booted in safe mode. 6 machines affected.
b) Updates won't run because one of the updates consistently corrupts during download, and therefore prevents all other updates from running. One machine affected.
c) A serial number refused to validate on 2 different machines, finally was accepted by a third one as legitimate. 2 machines affected.
d) Software will not accept the serial number past one run - serial number must be entered each time the software is run. 1 machine affected.
What do all of these issues have in common? CS6's Licensing scheme. It is fragile. If things aren't exactly to it's liking on the machine, one or another of these problems will manifest as an issue. The worst of them is d) because not only is it inconvenient - Photoshop only comes up in it's basic version, not extended, so basically we are not getting the functionality we paid for. All Extended features are not available in the software. Let me state this again - not one of these issues is with the way the program works, or with it's features (that's a separate list), this is to do with a licensing scheme that don't actually benefit the end user, at all. I'd have spent less time and trouble installing a cracked or pirated version of the program, instead of spending my weekends wrestling with a broken licensing scheme.
FIX THIS OR GIVE ME A WAY AROUND IT. These issues have now existed for MONTHS. These need to be corrected NOW. Don't even start in on pestering me to upgrade to CS7 until these issues are fixed. At this point I don't really feel like giving Adobe another dime of our money.
