Hello, a couple of days ago I realized, that in Photoshop the "Generative Fill" menu option is greyed out, therefor disabled.
My PS is 25.6.0. I have PS installed on Windows 10 and MacOS Sonoma and neither of them work.
Does anyone experience the same issue? Does anyone know how to make it active again?
Thank you for any info.
Apparently a third copy of photoshop wasn't properly deactivated. When I installed version 25.0 a activation/deactivation window appeared.
Thank you all guys for helping me. I didn't know when I type "agent" into chat, I would connect to a person, that helped a lot 🙂

Make sure you have a selection active on your canvas first. Use the Rectangular Marquee to draw a box somewhere. Your generation will fill the box you draw. You can draw the box to be the size of the whole canvas if that's what you want.

I've been using generative fill successfuly for about a year. The problem is, that it suddenly stopped working.

For a quick fix needed urgently, revert to the previously working version.
Install previous versions of your Creative Cloud apps (adobe.com)

If you're positive all of the technical details are correct, is it possible you may be out of generative credits to use the feature?
Here's a post with more information.

@JessCampbell Running out of generative credits should not disable the feature, however it could run slower

@donath79 What is the image mode and bit depth? Generative fill will be greyed out in Index mode or in RGB 32bits/channel

No no, I have plenty of credits, I've checked that.

One possible reason is that you have a managed account, such as Enteprise, Teams, or school, and the IT department disabled it. I'm not saying this is the case for you, but if you have an IT department, check with them.

Man, you are working hard to stump us on this one! Can you please provide a full screenshot of your project - showing your selection is active, showing that you have a layer selected in the Layers panel that is not locked? Maybe there will be something else we can see that will jog our problem solving brains...

Everything done as ususal. I'll try to downgrade PS, but I haven't got time for it today.
Thank you very much for trying to help me. I'm not that familiar with writing for community help, so if there is missing information from my side, I don't mean to disrespect 🙂
But it's the thing, the problem is kinda weird. I read it happened in betas (I've been using regular release since October, though), but even then it never occured to me. In a year old thread they advised to check Behance for birth date, I found no setting neither in Behance, nor in Adobe account.
And now all of a sudden it's inactive. I've been using PS for a very long time, generative fill for about a year, maybe less, I don't recall, but I've used it quite extensively over that period. And for sure I haven't done anything unusual recently when the problem occured. And it happens on two independent computers with different operating systems. Everything is up to date.

Try double clicking on the layer in the layer panel to change it from a background layer to a regular layer.
Then make your selection.

Never done that before and it worked. However I tried it now and it didn't work. Also installed a couple of previous versions (down to v. 25.4) and it didn't help either :(( So it must be something with my Adobe account, I guess.

Adobe Customer Care has assisted others with the same issue. Try the link to auto-open the Chat:

Type "agent"
If your browser blocks the Chat window, try the steps here:

You can also send a post through X (formerly Twitter) to @AdobeCare.
Do not reply to PMs, which are likely to be scammers.

My case was similar - my computer somehow became listed under devices but was no longer "activated":

I could still run Creative Cloud, install and update Photoshop, and run it. The only effect seemed to be that generative fill was greyed out. There was a button to reactivate my computer on the above link. Logging out and back in might have worked too.
