Photoshop gets stuck after latest CC update!

Hi,

it's unbelievable how much worse is Photoshop performing after latest CC update. I work on latest iMac Retina 5K with max spec and 32GB Ram and never had any problems until now.

The app is giving me a spinning color wheel all the time, it gets stuck when I want to move objects and the tools are disappearing. It gets especially difficult when You zoom in and work closely to subject. The test for this behavior is zooming in and out while pressing the mouse button and moving from left to right.

It's really annoying when You want to retouch a photo so You change the tools every second - from brush to zoom, from zoom to healing brush, changing the size and hardness by holding down the control + alt. I know I want a lot from this app but it's a industry standard and there's a reason why we invested thousand of dollars in latest macs.

As I said - it worked flawlessly before latest update. The attached screenshot is the precise moment when I get color wheel (which is not shown on the screenshot) - painting over mask on DnB layer. Please notice the available free memory (16GBs !!! ). While it gets stuck there's also this behavior of not seeing the main screen, only toolbar and bottom of the Photoshop - when You click on other app and click back on PS icon in the dock.

Has anyone encountered similar problems lately?

P.S. I went through all the performance steps in Photoshop help - didn't help.

There has been only one update made for CC 2017 which was made available last year

Adobe Photoshop Version: 2017.0.1 20161130.r.29 2016/11/30:23:00:00 CL 1099099 x64

I use windows performance is OK on Windows but there are bugs in CC 2017 so I use CC 2014.

I do not know about Mac OS version. Yous should search for other Mac user having performance issues with CC 2017. Ant the OSX Version you use.

first of all - thanks for Your answer. As this website states, there were numerous updates of CC2017 with the last one 15 days ago: Release notes for the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app

Currently I'm running: Adobe Photoshop Version: 2017.0.1 20161130.r.29 2016/11/30:23:00:00 CL 1099099 x64 - same as Yours.

Although You didn't provide any explanation of the problem, You did provide the info of search engine related to update version on Adobe's websites which I'm thankful for.

That update you posted was for the Creative Cloud Desktop Application. The Application is used to Install, Update and Launch Creative Cloud Application like Photoshop. Photoshop CC 2017 has had one Update. Adobe has releases several new release of it Plug-In ACR which is use be several Create Cloud Application New and Old versions.

I do not seem to have any performance problems with Photoshop CC 2017 on Windows 10. I do not use Photoshop CC 2017 though for bugs in its scripting support bite some of my Photoshop scripts. I did test CC 2017 and have it installed.

I would suggest that you check with Apple site to make sure you have the latest Apple software and device drivers for your Mac machine. How is your 5K display connected to you machine. On Windows most Display adapter would need to use two display port to support more than 4K. All I know about your iMac is the it is and all in one machine. The PC is build into the display case and the display connection is internal.

If cc 2017 worked as you put flawlessly in the past I would strongly suggest you try reseting you Photoshop preferences.

Hi Paul,

We just posted a recent Ps update last week. You can read about it here: Photoshop CC 2017.1 (April 2017) Update Now Available.

The Creative Cloud desktop app also had an update just before that and may have been causing the slowness. Can you check on the version of that application: Release notes for the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app ?

Hi everyone,
After the last update I've installed 2 days ago, the swap file started to be HUGE, from 2-3GB to 20-30GB and even bigger.
What is happening? Does anyone know what the problem is?
