Hi there. I just installed Catalina on my Mac. Everything is working fine. All my Adobe software was working fine. Today, I cannot open Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign. It goes thru the process of opening, a file will open ... then it crashes. I have restarted but it does not seem to help. All my other apps work ... except Adobe. What can I do?

Correct answer BDeetz

Plugins folder in: Application Support / Adobe / Plug-ins / CC / File formats says: Version 12.4

Is this the correct spot?

Hello there ... just received a tip from another member ... this solved my problem. Photoshop no longer crashes right after startup!!!! So happy.

Turn off Font Preview in Photoshop

  • Open Photoshop
  • Select "Type" from the menu
  • Pull down to "Font Preview Size"
  • Select "None"

I've been having the same issue for a year. I have upgraded to Catalina, hoping that will help with crashing, but no such luck. I keep upgrading InDesign regularly, but still, keep crashing. I've tried older versions of the same results. I wish Adobe came up with one solid version that works. very annoying.....

Have you completely uninstalled CC, run the CC Cleaner tool and done a fresh install?

Upgrading OS over existing apps can cause issues.

I always do fresh installs after a major OS upgrade.

Me again 🙂 Everything was working fine all day yesterday. (I had reinstalled Illustrator, Photoshop and inDesign after updating to Catalina about a week ago) Now ... I try to open and after about 5 seconds the apps just shut down.

Check your CC app for an update or error code. This seems to be going around again.

If you see an error code, try reinstalling CC app first.

Hi there. I was not receiving an error code. The Apps would open for about 5 seconds then just close. But I reinstalled them all yesterday and things seem fine now. Thanks for getting back to me. Barb

Firstly, check the system requirements: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/system-requirements.html
Assuming you have plenty of RAM and spare disk capacity, I suggest you uninstall Photoshop and the other Adobe applications, using the drop-down menu in the Creative Cloud app and reinstall them again. If that doesn't work, uninstall them again and run Adobe Cleaner before reinstalling them: https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Hi there. Thanks for getting back to me. I reinstalled the apps yesterday and now everything seems to be working fine. I will bookmark the link to Adobe Cleaner though ... just in case. B
