I'm altering a supplied JPG image in Photoshop for placement into a layout in InDesign. The image places into INDD with a drop shadow which I don't want. I've tried turning the drop shadow off in the Layer Style panel and have selected no shadow in the "Basic" Style panel in PS. It places into INDD with the drop shadow still applied. And, I am unable to turn off the drop shadow in INDD either. Deadline approaching fast, help.

It's hard to tell from your screenshots what is going on. JPEGs do not support transparency and your second screenshot appears to have transparency. It also shows a layer with a drop shadow effect. If the drop shadow is in the JPEG, there is nothing you can do in InDesign.
Can you show a screenshot that shows your entire workspace in Photoshop? Let's start there.

Hi. The initial placement into INDD was a .psd file since I want the transparency. I have tried several formats for placement: .psd, .pdf, .tif, png. and yes, .jpg. All formats come in with a drop shadow effect even though I unchecked the effect in PSD. And, I cannot get rid of the drop shadow in INDD either. Boxes do not stay unclicked at "Save".

In Photoshop you have one layer and the shadows appear. Photoshop doesn't see shadows — it only sees pixels, so the pixels that you see as shadows will need to be masked out in Photoshop.
Did this artwork originate as vector? Do you have a .ai or .eps file that you can open in Illustrator? If so, the shadows will be objects there and you can select them, then delete.

Seems you could crop two of 'em away in ID — 40% fixed! 😉
If you have the original, maybe shadows can be disabled (as you showed), then resaved.
If they are built into the pic, go to that file (or a copy) and brush them out.
