Photoshop Lighting Effects are not working

Hi,

This has probably been posted thousands of times but I'm unable to get Photoshop to render the lighting effects consistently. It's always a hit and miss meaning sometimes it would work and sometimes it will just completely black out and it's getting very frustrating because I require it for my client's work. So any help from Adobe would be greatly appreciated. 

My image used is 8bit and RGB color. I tried resetting and restarting both lighting effects and photoshop but it's still not working. 

Please advise.
