Photoshop lighting effects only showing up in preview mode

I'm trying to use lighting effects in Photoshop CC. My document is 8 bit and RGB. When I'm previewing the effect it works fine...

But after I click ok, it doesn't show up on my layer.

Am I doing something wrong?

Try to unlock your Background layer, or make the effect in a new layer.
