Question

Photoshop (Mac) Crashing when opening images or hitting return

Hi guys,

I just went to use Photoshop today only to discover that, for some reason, I'd been logged out of my account. I couldn't understand why, because I'd only used it yestersday and hadn't logged out. Anyhow, I've now logged back in but the most random thing has started happening:

If I hit the return key to complete an action (such as resizing an image), or if I have one image open and I go to open a second, the program crashes. It doesn't freeze or offer up an error - the software just closes itself immediately.

Any ideas why this might have started happening? I've not installed any new software, nor have I updated the OS or anything since yesterday when everything was working perfectly.

I'm running a virus check, but I'm not expecting it to return anything...

Cheers,

Andy

Why the software kept crashing, I have no clue!

Try logging into another user account (you may need to make one), still crashing?
Try starting up in Safe mode (hold down Shift Key when booting), still crashing?
You might want to try running a free utility like Onyx: still crashing?

Tried that, but it didn't work. Although I think I might have worked out what the issue is: For some reason, Adobe has created a second account for me under a different email address and I think, therefore, the billing is happening from one - whereas the software had logged itself in to the other account which is ancient and I didn't even realise I still had. So that's the billing issue.

Nope. The whole thing has stopped working. I have now removed the software from my computer in an attempt to re-install it; however, when I go to do this, Adobe will not let me do so without buying a licence (which I already have) and are continuing to charge me for software I can no longer use and can't re-install without buying a second licence (apparently). I would buy a new licence and start again - but I can't figure out where in God's name to cancel the original subscription - and I refuse to pay twice.

You don't even see the crash reporter dialog? See this document to see how to make sure it enabled:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html Then please submit all Crash Reports along with your email address. That will help us diagnose the crash.

The other thing to try is restore your preferences using this manual method:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually
If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.
