Photoshop 'save as' always creates a copy - NOT SOLVED

Hi there,

there is already a similar thread about that issue and it's state is solved. However: this problem is not solved at all, and I would appreciate if Adobe would give some really helpful support here!

Setup:

- Big Sur

- latest PS

Issue

- create a Photoshop file

- save the current state as a .jpg file using 'save as', a copy will be created

- modify the original Photoshop file

- again save the current state in a .jpg file using 'save as'

Now PS will note the the file already exists and ask if it should be replaced. However, even when choosing replace, it will create something like

- 'filename Kopie.jpg' (German version)

From now on every time you want so save the current state like this, PS will ask you:

- replace 'filename.jpg'? -> Yes.

- replace 'filename Kopie.jpg'? -> Yes

Now the latest state will be saved as 'filename Kopie.jpg' and the previous version will be overwritten. This means: from the MacOS-side everything is fine, as PS definitely has permissions to overwrite files. However, the 'save as' procedure in PS is messued up.

So Adobe, I think we all can expect som helpful support here, or even a fix!

regards, Jo

Check your Photoshop > Preferences to see if there is something in there that is set to create a copy.
