Photoshop Stuck Full Screen on Mac Sierra

Community Beginner ,
Nov 09, 2016 Nov 09, 2016

Hi all,

I use two monitors and Photoshop is stuck in full screen mode on my laptop (not displaying the top menu with red, yellow green dots).  I'm using Mac OS Sierra.  Some apps will let me minimize the window in order to move or resize, but Photoshop has no window controls available.  I can't even move the window to my extended desktop on external monitor.

Adobe is no help, of course. Anyone now of a way to get Photoshop out of full screen mode in order to move the window as desired?

Thanks!

Brent

You have to hold down  the "alt" (aka. option) key when you click on the green button (this will maximize all floating windows as opposed to only maximizing the window that you click inside)

Maybe you have turned off the application frame?

Select Window > Application Frame (make sure that the checkmark is on).

What happens when you create a new document?

Hi Jesper,

It's not the application frame.  I tried turning it on and off.

Below is a screenshot, showing the missing bar with the red, yellow and green circles.

Try the following:

Drag your document out to become a floating window.

You will now see window buttons on the floating document window

"alt" click on the green button in the floating document window.

Unfortunately that doesn't work. It does resize the floating document window, but does not affect the main photoshop window.

Thanks for the continued help.

Is your screen mode set to Full Screen with Menu Bar in the View>Screen Mode menu, by any chance? If so change it to Standard and see what happens

Good luck

It's in standard mode. Changing the view options was the first thing I tried. Most applications have a view section allowing you to maximize, minimize or zoom windows, which usually gets me out of situations like this - not PS though.

I appreciate the try though Alfred!

Thank you Jesper!  I tried fn and control but not alt/option before - woops.

This absolutely works!

Good to know - this case is something that we should take a look at, and try to avoid in the future.

Help! I cannot try this because the red/yellow/green dots are not there. I am in Standard view mode (and the full screen mode does not have the dots either). So there isn't a way for me to press alt/option on a green dot because the green dot is not there. I have no idea how this worked for Brent (the originator) because he said he had no dots either.

Hi, Brent. How did you get the answer from Jesper to work? You said you had no green/yellow/red dots (and neither do I). Yet her answer requires you to have a green dot in order to work.......

If you don't see window dots, then create a new document. Drag the tab out to be floating. Now you should see buttons on the floating document and you can "alt"+click on the green dot.

Hi, Vince. I tried that and it did nothing. But if you look at Jesper's latest response, THAT solved the problem. He said to dreate a new doc, float it, and do the alt/click on the floating doc's green button and it worked like a champ!
