Photoshop very slow after recent update...

After the update to photoshop 25 , its become so slow its unusable. Everything lags; brushes, lasso tool, transform and crop is so choppy its a complete guessing game, typing text, transforming text; the whole software has become so slow. 

Im on windows 10 with an nvidia graphics 530, 48gigs of ram; thought maybe it was the outdated gpu so I ugraded to an nvidia gt1030 with no luck. Tried reinstalling with no luck. Still slow. No other software, including lightroom, is having issues on the computer. Everything else runs smooth. Even sampled affinity photo and that runs fine on the computer. This seems isolated to Photoshop.

Ive tried all the suggestions here in teh search box; ie; checking the "use gpu" in preferences, adjusting cache size, increasing ram available to photoshop, and no luck. It remains laggy.

Other strange behavior that I noticed is CPU utilization while running ver. 25.2:  

• Drawing a selection with lasso tool makes CPU jump to 100% and after I made a selection, (marching ants) takes 50% of CPU. After I hit ctrl + D and deselect CPU usage goes back to 5% range. Using brush tool also makes CPU go to 100%.

This anomaly made me wonder if Photoshop is even using my discreet GPU at all.

So, I run another test, this time I turned off GTX 1650 in Photoshop performance settings (Use Graphic Processor box is unchecked) and restarted Photoshop:

• Drawing a selection with lasso becomes much smoother and takes only 20% of CPU, same goes to using brushes. Having active selection AKA marching ants, does not put any extra load on CPU.

Conclusion:

Ver 25.2 of Photoshop makes my Dell laptop go Crazy.

• With “Use Graphic Processor” (GTX 1650) option turn on it seem like GPU in not used at all according to task manager. Also, CPU load is enormous even with simple tasks like using brushes and lasso. My laptop gets hot and noisy. Interface is choppy and slow. Photoshop is not only not using discreet GPU; it puts extra strain on CPU.

• With “Use Graphic Processor” (GTX 1650) option turn off interface and operations become much smoother; CPU utilization gets back to normal levels.

Reverting to ver. 23.5.5.

• I can clearly see in task manager that discreet GPU is being used by Photoshop, CPU load is normal. Interface and panning the canvas are smooth.

Anyone have any ideas what’s going on and what the next step might be

Hello ! I recently built my new high end PC with high hope I would have a great photoshop experience.
Unfortunately it was slower than my old PC for a few things. Starting with... switching from brush tool to erase tool rapidly, as I used to do on my old PC using shortcuts between brush strokes. I tried changing my keyboard in case keys were failing but nope ...

My MAc is two years old and custom built with plenty of RAM, and 2024 is rubbish. manually ussing the Lasso tool is excrutiating. Its not the Mac as I;ve gone back to 2023 and it runs super fast.

All this change for all the AI features... rubbish. I'll use 2023 and only open 2024 for specific AI related tasks.

I noticed this happened with my secondary PC with the last update- was SORT OF rectified when updating Windows (the past couple of updates still have Photoshop running a little wonky on this machine though to be honest ). Didn't go through a lot of the responses here but its worth it to check for updates in the very off chance you haven't.

Same here. Brand new High end PC with latest everything and the UI is extremely sluggish. Any solutions? Wait until new update? I guess I will have to learn another software...

After 7 versions and 8 months, Adobe still hasn't managed to fix the bug that makes work tables with text layers extremely slow to move.

I'm currently using two versions, the last one that worked well and the most recent one that makes me cry a little.
