the Cntrl+D shortcut for deselect has stopped working for both Photoshop and Indesign after the 25.3.1 update. I have tried the following solutions below but nothing is working. I have resorted to re-assigning the hotkey to a different combo, but it is very cumbersome and would like to know if there is anything else I can try. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Things I have tried:

-unassigined hotkeys in my outside programs that are known to cause problems, snagit and camtasia, and made sure they are fully shut down before opening adobe software

-tried the 'reset preferencees on quit' option

-assigned the function to another key and reassigining it

-uninstalling and reinstalling the software multiple times

I dont know what else to try, if there is another program that may be causing this please let me know.

Ctrl + D is working for me on Windows 10 in Ps 25.3..1. If you've reset your Preferences, then you could try uninstalling/reinstalling.

You could also use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool:

When you reinstalled it, which version are you using? You might try updating if it's not the latest version (the current version is 25.3.1--you can check it here https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/uptodate.html). If that's not the latest version that you see in the Creative Cloud Desktop app, then you might need to also update the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

So you're running 25.3.1? I ask because sometimes people think they have the latest version but actually don't. On Windows, you can go to Help > About Photoshop... to confirm the version.

It can be confusing if the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop app shows that Photoshop is up to date, but if the Creative Cloud Desktop app hasn't been updated, it might not actually be this version.

While the Creative Cloud Desktop app should update automatically, there are cases where it might not.

Also, you tagged your post as Windows. Are you using Windows 10 or 11?

hello,

yes I have confirmed the version, a screenshot is attached. I didnt find it in the help--about photoshop section so I instead went to help--system info and everything was listed out. I am on version 25.3.1 and my OS is Windows 10 64-bit

Hi Jasmine.  Before you go crazy trying to fix this, I think there is something going on with Ctrl D.  I have had the same issue, but intermittently.  It often fails first time, and works the next.  Of course, I can't make it happen now, and I have no idea of the steps that cause it to happen.

Is it 100% for you?   I have also lost the Add Canvas shortcut (Ctrl Alt C) since about two weeks ago, but this is with both full release and beta versions, and at least one update.  I put a lot of work into trying to fix that, and failed completely.  So I think this is to do with another app stealing focus and trappiing the shortcut.

I use Add Canvas a lot, so had to resort to some simple actions that add different amounts to the canvas

I usually work with the beta version, and with Windows 11.  I'll keep this thread open and let you know if I break the Ctrl D shortcut again.

Hello! thank you for your message it is comforting to know I'm not the only one lol yes it is constant for me now, I did have this issue about a month ago in After Effects and at that time the screenshot program Snag It was the culprit, so I shut it down both regularly and made sure it was gone in the task manager and that restored the shortcut, but now that isnt working for either photoshop, indesign or after effects. Based on that previous experience I am almost certain Snag it is the problem here, I just dont understand why shutting it down completely doesnt seem to be working anymore...

Make sure that the keyboard input language in Windows matches the language of Photoshop. For instance, if you installed Photoshop in English, set the input language to English as well.

LATEST

Hello,

Just giving an update, I have completely uninstalled Snag it, the program I presumed was the issue since I had this same issue with it in the past, and I uninstalled and reinstalled all Adobe software and unfortunately the cntrl+D is still not working for any of the suite products. I tried using both Cntrl buttons as I found that suggestion online but neither is working.

Please if anyone has any other suggestions let me know as I am totally out of Ideas. This seems to be a very prevalent problem the more I look online, I honestly don't know whether to blame Techsmith for Snag It or Adobe at this point but either way my advise to anyone reading this is IF YOU USE ANY ADOBE SOFTWARE, DO NOT DOWNLOAD SNAG IT!!

use anything else to avoid this headache until they fix this...
