Polygon Lasso Tool close control

Question

I am wondering if there is any control over the closing of polygon lasso selections. I often have them prematurley close when points are placed close together. The degree of zoom has an influence on this.
Can I somehow control when it closes or tell it not to close until I hit a key or sweep the stylus across a window border?

There are two ways to close the polygonal lasso selection:

hover over the beginning, confirm that you see the circle icon, and click once
double-click anywhere

If it's closing too early, you might need to change the speed of your double-click or pay close attention as you select. Practice in a blank area.
