polygonal lasso tool: forward & backwards

how can i make certain parts of my text foward and behind another text? i saw this video on tiktok of somebody using the polygonal lasso tool, but everything is cropped out. i want to recreate this screenshot.

i circled where i want the text to be brought forward, i just dont know how to bring it to the front. im not sure what she did in the video because after the marching ants appear, it automatically brought it to the front. idk what she did

Have two copies of one element, with the other in between them. Add a Hide All layer mask to the top layer, and paint white into the mask to let the middle layer show through.
