Print problem

I'm having a problem printing from photoshop latest version. I'm getting diagonal lined borders around the print on the screen with the bottom area being much larger than the top and sides. The printer I am using is a canon ipf 6300. It is ok when using roll paper but problem occrs with any size of sheet. I know it doesn't print borderless on on sheet but I have no option to centralise the print and make the borders all equal.adobe.jpg

Hi ianjaytee,

Please take a look at the steps to troubleshoot mentioned here Troubleshoot Photoshop printing problems and let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

The diagonal lines just indicate where the nonprinting area of the paper is (these lines don't show in the print). It's not a bug.

Hi The diagonal lines show up in the print as a white border area no matter what paper size is used.If you resize the print so that there is a 5cm border around the print there is 5cm plus the extra bit when printed. There is no way to take into account the diagonal lined area and make the print central. I have spoken to 6 different people at Adobe who are clueless. It does not happen in Lightroom, capture one or a Windows print only Photoshop latest versions.

Yes the diagonal line represent the unprintable area, they will appear as white in the print, The reason they are there is because when you use sheet paper as opposed to roll paper, your printer cannot print full bleed (to the edges) because it needs some part of the paper to hang on to while pushing through the printer. This is common behavior on all or most roll fed printers, it's not a bug. If you want borderless, you'll need to use roll paper.

You're not grasping the problem either. If I have a 50x40 sheet and want to print a 40x30 print there is no way of centralizing the print so the border is 5cm all round. Only happens in Photoshop not in Lightroom or capture on.

So I have a 6450, if I set up the paper 40x50 and image size 30x40 you describe I get this:

PRNTSETTINGS.JPG

I chose landscape so the extra nonprint area is at the right instead of the bottom. This is what I would expect to see, does yours look different?

I get the same. So cannot print with equal borders left and right. Have to make an approximate guess to centralise. not the case with lightroom or capture one.

Have enclosed some screenshots.

Never used to happen before the CC updates.

I also use the ipf print plugin but that didnt work with windows 10 and new photoshop.

Does your driver have this setting for paper source:

3MMSetting.jpg

It gives me an even border:

3MM2.jpg

It does give a warning about printing too close to the edge, so you may need to experiment to find the maximum size but it looks like it will get you where you want to go.

Hi

The 3mm margins used to be there but disappeared in later versions of photoshop and windows 10. I dont think it is in the canon drivers because they are quite old.

Not sure what the second link is showing.

I’m using a ipf6450 on Windows 10, just as an FYI. The ipf6300 driver looks like it was updated in January of 2017 if you haven’t tried it yet:

Hi

Found the answer.

It seems that when printing with fine art papers the 3mm border dropdown disappears. When you select matt or glossy photo papers etc it comes back so you can then print with whatever border size you want by centering and putting in any figure less than 100%.

I think an email to canon to get them to fix the problem and then one to adobe doing the same may help.

Thanks for your time.

Selecting Heavyweight Art Paper (just the first one I tried) removed the 3mm setting. I would guess that paper thickness/weight is the determining factor.

I see second one is with 3mm border.

I think it's time photoshop had a facility to set the border size like lightroom and capture one.

What version of the canon print driver are you using? and what version of photoshop?

The guys at Adobe and Canon have no idea how to fix. I figured out there is a missing icc profile in either windows 10 or new photoshop.
