Problem opening ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) [2018]

My situation:

PC Windows 10 up to date

CC apps are all up to date.

Problem:

Can't open a raw file by clicking file -> open and click on a raw file.

jpg of psd file open fine in Photoshop.

Opening a raw file from the explorer by right clicking and choose open with, I get the same fault message

Opening from Bridge in any way doesn't work either

The message I get when trying to open a raw file is:

Could not complete your request because of a program error.

Using the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop doesn't work either, I get the message:

Could not complete the Camera Raw Filter command because of a program error

In Lightroom if I open the same raw file with Ctrl E the file opens nicely in Photoshop.

What I tried:

starting with no plugins

reset the preferences

starting windows in safe mode

used the (latest) camera raw installer

uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop

That's good to hear and congratulations on solving it for yourself. A very weird problem indeed as I am using Windows 10 and ACR 10.4 and it works. I can only assume there is a conflict with a driver somewhere, the obvious candidate being the graphics card.

ACR 9.1 is a few years old now so you probably will not have access to the 'Dehaze' feature or the 'Range Mask' both of which are quite useful. The very strange thing is Lightroom Classic uses ACR 10.4 internally and that works for you which is hard to explain. Adobe seem to be releasing Photoshop and ACR updates almost monthly now so it's possible there might be an ACR update next week.

After I found the problem, one of the suggestions was to update my graphic card driver, which I did. It didn't solve the problem.

My guess is the problem is in the CameraRaw 10.4 in combination with the drivers installed for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB or some Windows updates.

I have tried again to use the CameraRaw 10.4 but the problem is still there. So for now I will keep the CameraRaw 9.12.1 so I can use most of the CameraRaw in Photoshop and if I want to use the newer functions, I will have to do them in Lightroom.

Hope Adobe can solve this in the next update of CameraRaw.

go to the ACR 10.4 installer file

R- click the file and select " run as administrator"

See if that works.

Have you reported this problem to Adobe and Nvidia. This is a user forum for photoshop user to get help and help Photoshop users. This is not Adobe Feedback site where you report bugs. There is also a newer Nvidia Device driver for you adapter then you have installed try that driver its date 8/1/2018 version 398.82 two week old

Unfortunately updating Nvidia drivers didn't work. ACR 10.3 works for the moment so I will leave it like it is for now and hope the problem will be solved with the next update of camera raw. Thanks for all your help,

Almost 2 years later I find the same problems. I updated everything. Photoshop and Camera Raw to 12.2. It still says the same "program error". I guess somehow a Windows updated messed it all up?? Need help
