'problem parsing the jpeg data'

Community Beginner ,

Hi,

I have a selection of jpeg files I need to open in Photoshop CS5. The larger files (between 42MB and 123.9MB) will not open, though the smaller ones will. The error message is: 'Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing the JPEG data'. I would have thought Photoshop could easily cope with these file sizes. I have opened psd files of 1.5GB with no problem. Is there something particularly difficult about opening large JPEGs?

Many thanks,

Mark@

Hi Mark, I don't think it's a problem with the weight but with the file itself. Can you open it in other programs? Did you try to save them in TIFF from another program and check if Photoshop works?

Hi Bettina,

I have worked around it in just the way you suggest. I opened a file in 'Preview' OK and saved it as a TIFF which I then opened in Photoshop. I suppose that is my best solution.

You can use "Windows photo viewer / open / Adobe acrobat DC/

and then just save it as a pdf file, then open it on Photoshop
