Problem with Brush Tool

I have encountered a problem recently.  When using the Brush tool, it is fine when I use a soft brush.  When I change to a hard brush, the tool changes to the Eraser.  I have tried resetting the brush and eraser tools to no result.  I also went back to the default settings in Preferences and restarted PS but no change.  The problem started when I inadvertently used the eraser tool.  Prior to this the issue did not exist.  Any one have an idea as to how to solve this issue?

Did it take care of the issue for you? If not, are you able to send us a screen recording? Sometimes that helps us find the issue.

Is this happening with a Wacom tablet or just by using your mouse? And, have you tried resetting the brush tool? Screenshots of your Photoshop interface would be a great help!
