Problem with Nik Effects Plugins since updating to Photoshop 2019

Hi there,

Please can I get some help.

Windows 10 user...

After I updated to Photoshop 2019, Nik Effects wasn't in the Plugin folder, so I copied it across from Photoshop 2018, and when I go to the Filter menu, it is there and the programs open up, but I no longer see the 'Save' button, in any Nik Effect program - all there is is an 'OK' button which doesn't apply the preset when it closes and goes back into Photoshop.

All the Nik Effects programs still work fine in Lightroom and the 'Save' button is visible.

When I start Photoshop I get the message, 'One or more plug-ins are currently not available on your system. For more details, see Help - System Info'

And strangely enough, all my Topaz Labs programs work fine in Photoshop, but I don't see them in the Photoshop 2019 Plugin folder. There is just the 'Generator' folder and the Google, Nik Effects folder that I copied across. (I got Kni effects when Google owned it).

Hi

Not having any issues with the Nik Google collection and I just copied the Google folder from CC 2018 to CC 2019

Have you tried re-installing the plug-in

You need the installer, so unless you have it I'm afraid it's not available for download any longer

You can of course purchase it from here which is fully supported for the latest versions of Photoshop

I have every single installer and unfortunately there are compatibility issues on my end with 2019:

All Nik (Google) Plugins work in Win 10 PS cc2018 but there is an issue with 2019:

I've tried the last published (Google) Nik installer with no luck. It's not a huge deal since PS 2019 doesn't bring anything exciting to the party but it is a big inconvenience since I can't get bridge to open files in 2018 as the default even though I checked it in the associations.

I guess I'll just wait to update Nik until DxO decides to provide a significant update (other than repacking) to the engines and also when Adobe releases something in PS worth upgrading from 2018 to. Or maybe I'll just move over to Dxo since it's integrated into "PhotoLab".

I have also problems with the Nik plugins. I am working on an iMac btw.

After editing in one of the NIK filters and click ok the results don't render anymore as in CC2018.

Please give a solution.

I am also having a similar problem. I typically edit in silver efex and then do a luminosity blend in Photoshop. Photoshop is crashing now when I try this.

Unfortunately the update to PS2018 "broke" some functionality of the Nik suite. There is no workaround to be had.

I had similar issues: Most all worked except Viveza and the floating menu of all the apps. The only solution is to work in the previous version of PS as I did for a while or upgrade to the new DxO version.

If Nik is a significant player in your workflow I strongly suggest forking over the very small price of $69. Why? Because this will allow you to use the Nik suite in future versions of PS and also keep the Nik suite alive for years to come. As with all companies, ESPECIALLY Adobe, if it's not making them $$$ then they will just kill it off.

Update - I went into Nik Effects settings from Photoshop. It wont apply effect to separate layer so I changed it to, 'apply effect to current layer', and it worked.

But I still get the 'problem with the plugin' message when I start Photoshop.

It used to apply the effect to a separate layer.

I've figured out that The 'Save' button must be only when Nik Effects is used in Lightoom.

Any ideas, how I get back to the 'applying to separate layer' functionality?

Hey there!

I noticed this issue too, though I'm on a mac.

My work around was to open the file directly from Lightroom or into the 2018 version. Which is no bueno.

I was just able to go to the program file. On mac I right clicked on Ps 19 on the doc and said show in finder. There is a plugin folder.

I did the same on my 2018 version and copied over the google folder into the plugin folder of 2019.

Restarted Ps cc 2019 and there it was!

I have a solution to the Bridge 2019 Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 problem. After selecting a group of RAW files in Bridge 2019 the typical next step is to look under the Tools option for either DXO Nik or Google. Neither appears. Here is what I discovered works. Right click on one of the selected RAW files. Google will appear at the bottom of the list and Merge to HDR Efex Pro 2 can be selected. The tool then works as expected.

Okay... in Silver FX I couldn't get the settings to STICK... so I went to settings (lower left near HELP) and changed it to APPLY TO CURRENT LAYER and now it's working. Weird. I just save the color version first, then BW magic, then resave with a unique name.
