Problem with Type on a path

Guide ,
Nov 03, 2019 Nov 03, 2019

When I make type on a path all is well at first. With the Direct Selection tool I can reposition or flip the text. But after that, say I make a new layer or do other things I cannot alter the position of the text anymore. The pointer with the I-beam and the small arrow won't show up anymore. I also noted that I can't place the text cursor in the middle of the text anymore, only at the end. I can however use the arrow keys to move the text cursor so that is not a real problem but the fact that I cannot reposition or flip the text is a real annoyance.

Could it be graphics card related?

Without any system information or otehr details nobody can realyl tell you much. Sure, could be hardware-realted, but could just as well be something as trivial as some "auto-select layer" feature on another tool getting in the way. Similalrly of course the selection state of the path in the paths palette might figure in as well as the formatting and styling of the text or for that matter how a layer may interact with others when specifcic layer styles or blending modes are used. that is to say there could be a million reasons why hit detection for the text cursor doesn't work as expected.
