Program Error Diagnostic Plugin feedback

Frustrated by Program Errors in Photoshop? We can help!

First, try the troubleshooting suggestions listed in the Program Errors when opening or saving files

 

Next, if after following the steps above and you're still encountering Program Errors:

  1. Follow the instructions to install the Program Error Diagnostic Plugin
  2. Open Photoshop and enable the Photoshop User Diagnostics option provided in the Plugins menu
  3. Reproduce the Program Error, then click OK to dismiss the Program Error dialog (This then copies the detailed error text to your clipboard)
  4. Click the blue Reply button on this post and paste the Program Error clipboard contents into this community thread

 

Doing this will assist our Engineering team's investigations so these Program Errors can be resolved.

      On a Mac running Catalina (10.5.7) I have a user that is getting "Could not complete your request because of a program error." every time she tries to create a new or open any file in any version of PS v 22. Installed the user diagnostic into plug ins and got the following (see pic) . Please advise.

      I am also getting this error, but it only happens when I am saving files to my Google Drive (via Google Drive file stream). Is this an issue for anyone else?

        Nevermind! I solved my program error problem. I gave both Google Drive and Photoshop full disk access.

          Hi all,

           

          Apologies for the incorrect instructions previously. Have now edited the original instructions (step 3) to require the dismissal of the Program Error dialog prior to the error detail contents getting added to the system clipboard.

           

          Step 3: Reproduce the Program Error, then click OK to dismiss the Program Error dialog (This then copies the detailed error text to your clipboard)

           

          Give this a try and see if you're able to paste/provide the error details here in a new reply.

          That doesn't work either. I open Photoshop, click the plugin. It takes me to an empty dashboard. I have selected copy to clipboard on the plugin. I click simulate error and then try to open a PSD file. It closes everything and takes me back to the home screen and pops up the error. After that, when I try to close Photoshop, it just gives the same error over and over. I have to use task manager to close it.

            I am getting this error when I attempt to open a file (tried with .jpg, .png, ,psd) and then again when i try to close the program. In order to close the program I had to use task manager. I installed the diagnostic plugin, and I followed the steps to get it to reproduce the error, but the error appears to close the plugin and I don't get any data on my clipboard.

              Update because i was not able to edit my message: I am not always able to close photoshop with task manager if I have tried to close it normally. Sometimes the program does not even show up in task manager. I do not get any error data with this error either.

              I have installed PS 22.1.1 and have the same problem that I have had with the previous two versions - I cannot save my files. I have two unsatisfacotory work-arounds: I need to flatten my files and I then need to re-name them. The message that I get when I try to save the file is:

              Could not save [file name] because of a program error.

               

              I have a 2017 iMac with - 

              Processor 3.4 GHz quad-core intel i5

              Memory 32 GB

              Graphics - radeon pro 570 4GB

               

              I used the Program Error Diagnostic Plugin and I all tried all of the suggestions listed in Adobe's "Program Errors when opening or saving files." I called for tech help but the issue was not resolved and I have not heard back from Adobe.

              Thank you all for trying the plugin and sorry that you've had trouble with the data getting added to the clipboard. 

               

              One suggestion from engineering would be to disable the background save function in Photoshop. 

              You can do this in Photoshop's Preferences > File Handling > Background Save

              Give that a try and let us know if the Program Errors diminish!

                Hello. Thanks for the suggestion. This did not solve the issue for me. Same issue as everyone here. All GPU acceleration needs to be disabled in order to avoid error. I have Nvidia Studio drivers. With 2 different GPUs.

                Problem appeared wi recent updates of Ps.

                  I am also following the instructions for the diagnostics plug-in, installed it successfully, and checked the box to copy to clipboard, but nothing is being copied to the clipboard after I recreate the "Could not complete your request because of a program error." error. Running latest v. 21.1.1

                    I am also following the instructions for the diagnostics plug-in, having pasted the relevant folder into plugins, yet no information is copied to the clipboard at any point. Running latest v. 21.1.1

                     

                    I am not able to open files, or even close photoshop itself, with the error message:

                    could not complete your request because of a program error


                    I am only able to open files by going into preferences, disabling generator and graphics card usage, and must force-close PhotoShop through task manager. I will revert to the previous version (22.1) in the hopes that this helps.

                      same situation. cannot open any files or cannot close the software except the task manager.
                      user diagnostics does not copy anything to the clipboard despite error message.

                      it happened right after I've installed .NET today. Don't know whether it has any relation to it. 
                      disabling graphics processor allows opening files again, which is obviously not the desired way.

                        I am hoping someone can help. My error message is when I use the sky replacement plugin. I orginally went through the troubleshooting tips but always got  "Could not complete your request because of a program error." when I tried using this feature. I've now downloaded the Program Error Diagnostic Plugin, unziped and placed  folder in (Mac) Applications/Photoshop/Plugins. I open the diagnostic tool, check the box, recreate error but noting copied to clipboard. I just want to use the Sky Replacement feature and the not get "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
