PS 2022 - Terribly slow

The latest update outdid itself. Photoshop works like [removed by moderator], everything is laggy, brushes are laggy (even the basic circle), and files that were light-speed dashing several years ago on a laptop with GTX 760 and I7 and 8gb ram, now are lagging RTX 2080 and I9 and 32 gb ram.

Screen freezes almost every single time when I zoom and move the viewport too fast - I need to reopen the file +- 15 times per hour. Ctrl + Z // Ctrl + Alt + Z is terribly slow, to the point where sometimes I question myself if I have even pressed the shortcut. It's like every single thing is working worse and worse each update.

Turning off graphic processor is not an option, turning off second screen is not an option, so don't even mention those. Tried it - it does nothing.
All drivers up to date.

So what about releasing new version each week, you will make one solid version that just w o r k s?

Hi there,

We're sorry for the trouble with Photoshop. Would you mind sharing the System info of Photoshop by going Help > System Info, there you can copy the information and send it to us. Since when are you seeing this issue? We're here to help. Just need some info.

You may also try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps mentioned here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Please backup your actions, brushes, etc. before you reset the preferences. You can check: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html

Please look at the following article and check if that helps: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-slow-lags.html

Regards,

Tarun

Hello!

Problems occur for the past... 2 years? Some updates make it slightly better better (the last version that was causing the least amount of problems was like year ago, 21.0.47 or something like this, if this helps somehow), wast majority make it significantly slower, with the canvas freezing being the biggest problem on any slightly bigger file.

I was restarting preferences, does not work. Also on top of that - If I'm using Wacom tablet, and then decide to zoom with mouse, the entire canvas spazms and nothing works even more xD

I use Cs PS 2022

My father use Cc Ps5

like a joke!!! I'm using a Canon 5d mark light and the difference between the two computers is huge... Ps2022 is no different from garbage. I paid 1 year ps fee 2 months ago and the program I used is really garbage! almost 10 years old photoshop works more stable and faster on my father's older computer. We have two computers of the same model as my father, same photos, same processes, same features. I work smoothly and very fast with Photoshop cs5. I have difficulty even zooming with my own computer, using a brush is a dream for me! because it doesn't work!!! I can only make simple contrast and light settings. It's like a joke… I feel sorry for the money I paid adobe, you don't deserve it. Disabling a properly working program is a completely different skill, and getting paid for it is robbery! I only do the basic light settings in Photoshop and work very simply. I don't even use 10 layers most of the time and the damn photos are 25mb in size! What should I do, should I take a photo in 640x480 resolution? Hahaha… I tried that too because… I regret the money I paid you don't even deserve a penny

Right there with you brother - Turning off rulers and guides helped a small amount, but quite why something that worked fine in 1998 is now bringing my i9 to its knees remains a mystery - presumably the overlay engine is completely b0rked.

Not sure why Im surprised Im here again. Seems like this is the endless Adobe loop.....they release an 'update' and we have to scramble online to find out why everything feels like swimming in tar. Im so tired of paying for this nonsense. these updates feel like a box ticking exercise so that you can legally justify charging a subscription fee. Virtually unworkable now, 12cores and 64GB Ram, Photoshop optimised as much as possible and nope....I have to shave in between waiting for a font to change from regular to italic.

Adobe, can you, for the love of god please stop [Profanity removed by moderator] about and churning out [Profanity removed by moderator]. We're paying you for this. I don't care about Neural filters to make my photos look like they were made on inshot, or the new way of making saving a headache, or that I can now make masks in a really convulted way that look awful compared to the old way....I want a version that is stable and works. Pretty much like any version prior to this CC abomination. Rant over.

I feel you 😄

It seem to work just fine with max 4000px file and max 10 layers, but sometimes still chokes on this. Anything bigger is just well... Unpleasant, to say it gently.

And thanks for saving me money, I thought maybe going from 32 to 64gb of RAM might solve the problems, it turns out it wont 😛

Thanks for saving me money too. I've been saving up for a 64gig system, Not surprised a faster computer and more ram doesn't fix the problem though. Because this "Memory leak has been going on for 15 + years.

I feel you brother. I keep my old copy of CS6 on hand for just this reason. If it wasn't for the Content Aware Fill being so good, I'd just not bother and stick on CS6, I don't think anything they've added since has actually had a positive impact on my workflow - it's been a non stop cavalclade of bugs and slowdowns.

I miss the John Nack "Tell us what's broke and we'll fix it" approach of yesteryear 😞

Totally bro. There has really been nothing since Photoshop 7 (other than the basic content aware and smart objects (I create a lot of mock up assets)) that has made my workflow any easier or more streamlined. Just bugs, lags and a cacophony of changes to well established behaviors. The very fact these 'legacy' options have to be added shows that they shouldn't have been changed in the first place.

God bugged out again struggling to use the curves dialog on a 16 bit image at 100% zoom again today.

The curves tool.

Impossibly laggy. Zoom out to 100% and it's fine, but that's not useful and it shouldn't be like this. Close to despair.

Yeah xD
For me it turns out - half of the lagging is caused by the rulers. If I have them on, PS constantly freezes canvas, and brushes lags immensly. If I turn those off, it seem to work much better. Also reinstalling all drivers helped for a brief period of time (or I'm just imagining it, placebo), but some documents keep freezing the canvas regularly xD

ALLLLLLL of this. I'm currently looking for different software. Time is money, and I don't have the money to waste sitting and waiting for this program to glitch and pause.

Why fix something that wasn't broken? I didn't have any problems before the update, and I wanted for nothing more. I can't justify paying a subscription for garbage. Adobe is gonna eat their hat on this one if they don't either revert or fix the glitches fast. 🙄🤬

I had been using a 6 y/o computer with an ancient i7 processor, 24 gb of RAM & yada, yada yada. It was so slow that I could literally go pour myself a cup of coffee or visit the bathrroom while I waited for files to load or process. I finally broke down and bought an i9, 64 gb RAM, SSD, 3070 nvidia, clean install, yada yada yada. The i9 is faster but nowhere near $3200 worth (cost of new PC). It takes PS 38 seconds to boot up, 8 seconds to load the preference menu & 1 minute 26 seconds to load a 9.7 MB RAW file. This is shameful and is deserving of a lawsuit although I am sure the terms of use state that Adobe's incompetence and neglect cannot be held against them.

38 seconds... I can only dream of PS opening that fast on my Mac now (current OS, 32GB RAM, etc.). It takes several MINUTES to boot. I literally go get a cup of coffee... speed is close to circa 1991 with a Mac IIcx. (Not just photoshop; Illustrator is now CRAP too. I *never* want to save to the Adobe cloud, but the defaults won't stick.) I need a time machine to take my computer back two years.

I have the same problem, I work with 500 meg files on a Mac. Are you working on a Mac?  I am thinking there is some conflict with the Mac because PC people don't seem to have a lagging issue.

I found it no longer tenable to give money to Adobe for an increasingly slow and bloated application. After more than two decades as a paid Adobe customer, I pulled the pin and cancelled my subscription, and bought a suite from another company that can open all of my historical files properly, is cross-platform, has iOS apps, and cost me AUD$160, with no further subscription fees.

Is it perfect? Nope. Does it allow me to do what I need to do? Yes.

Adobe's greed burned a 20+ year working relationship.

I assume you've moved to the Affinity suite of programs? Slowly making that transition myself...Adobe have utterly ruined their software through greed and taking the Google approach of 'Lets make it how we THINK users want it' not how users actually NEED it. Not to mention pushing unneccessary and ridiculously buggy updates to justify using a subscription based business model. Really just feels like we're all just paying Adobe to be Beta testers.

Oh, almost forgot, I'm going to request that they change the name of Photoshop's native file format from .PSD to .PTSD its much more accurate and relevant 😛 and @chanaart It absolutely does help to send angry messages, its a form of exorsicm and much needed therapy 😉
