PS CS5 Slow Opening PNG files why?

I have a Dell Optiplex with 16gigs ram. Nothing is broken with my system or Photoshop. My question is every time I open a .png file it seems to take a long time and then it opens and I have no problem manipulating it and resaving it. Is it just the way the png file format is or is it something to do with Photoshop? Is there something I can do to improve the time it takes to open png files. When I open any other file format they open fast but not png. Any explanation would gullibly be accepted as the truth at this point. Thanks.
