Quick Mask doesn't work

Community Beginner ,

I don't use it that often so I don't know when it started but Quick Mask is not working anymore. There is no red brush showing and no selection. When I change values, the whole image changes.

Ps 25.9.1, Win 11. Brush opacity 100%, mode normal.

I renamed the file "Adobe Photoshop 2024 Prefs.psp" to ".old". (I read that in an earlier post)

Did you reset the Photoshop preferences, which you can do under the General tab in Photoshop Settings?

It seems to be working on mine (also v25.9.1) , is your dialogue box as the attached screenshot (you can change the mask colour)?

(Q is the keyboard shortcut.)
If not reset the Photoshop preferences to see if that sorts out the issue.

Yes it is. I changed the color, opacity, masked or selected areas but no result.

To be clear, having selected the Quick Mask you then use the Brush tool to paint on the image?

Thanks, that did it! I guess there is no other solution without losing your preferences?
