Black Home Screen / New Document Window

If you experience a black Home screen or a blank new document window in Photoshop, try the steps mentioned below to try and fix the issue.

Quit Photoshop

Ensure that you have saved any file you are working on and then quit Photoshop.

Navigate and rename the UXP folder

Navigate to the below mentioned folder and rename the UXP folder to UXP.old

  • Windows : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\UXP
  • Mac: Macintosh HD/Library/Application support/Adobe UXP

NOTE: If you don't use the Home Screen or the new New document dialog, you can disable them:

  • Go to the Edit menu (on Windows)/Photoshop Menu (on Mac)
  • Then navigate to Preferences, then General
  • Enable the option to Use Legacy New Document dialog and deslect the option for Auto-show the Home Screen.
  • Once you've made the changes, relaunch Photoshop.
