Quickly Adding a Extension to File Name (Save As)

Interesting question here. Lets say I edit a file IMG_409.jpg - The edit is simply adding a sepia tone color effect. Normally I would go to save the file and then add an extension to the file name Example: IMG_409s.jpg - As to not overwrite the original. Photoshop use to always put the cursor when entering the save screen right before ".jpg". Now the entire file name is highlighted. Any idea how you make the cursor just automatically go before .jpg on the file name? With the entire file name selected it makes me go through an extra step when adding a extension to the filename.

So what has changed in your setup? An update to the OS, or an update to Photoshop?

Both have changed (an update to the OS, or an update to Photoshop).

Noting the version/build of both Photoshop and your OS would seem to be appropriate.

It works the same for me using v2024 (25.12.0) and Mac Ventura (13.7.2).

The extra step is using the right cursor key or mouse.

Yes, it works the same way for me where there is an extra step of using the right cursor. Back in 2017-2018 the cursor would automatically input right before "".jpg and the file name was not highlighted thus elimating the extra step. The extra step is tedious when saving hundreds of files per day while adding edited effects in photoshop.

I understand. I presume that you are not always simply adding an "s" and that this may change depending on the edit.
