Hi @Valc2
To see the old swatches, open the Swatches panel menu and select Legacy Swatches. To learn how the new Swatches work, see here:

Hi Jane e
This has been so helpful and I very much appreciate your help!
I do have a couple more questions though concerning the swatch panel. Is it possible to make your own color swatches and add them to the existing menu? If so, how would one do that?
And, If I am seeing the new color swatches correctly, many of them are in very subdued colors? Many look very washed out. Is this the way they should look?
Again thank you so much!

Hi
You're welcome, @Valc2 .
Yes, you can make your own color swatches from whatever is currently the Foreground color in the Tools panel. Use the Swatches panel menu in the upper right or the buttons on the bottom to create new groups (folders) and new swatches (presets). A dialog will come up to allow you to name them.
To put a new color as the Foreground color, there are multiple ways that include:
- Use the eyedropper tool "I" and click in your image to pick up a color
- Double-click the Foreground color swatch in the Tools panel and use the Color Picker
- Use the Color panel as it is or use the Color panel menu to customize it, such as adding sliders
Once you have a Foreground color, then add it to the current swatch group.
Yes, this is the way the colors were designed. If you use HSB in the Color Picker or the Color panel, you can change the Hue, Saturation, or Brightness individually and then make new swatches.

hi Jane e
Thank you again for your reply. another problem I have been having is the eyedropper tool keeps coming up when I have not selected it. How do I get rid of it or do I need to choose a new tool?

Hello, if you hold the ALT/Option key while a brush tool is in use, it will trigger the eyedropper.
Likewise if you hold the "I" key.
