Reading PSPs in CC

New Here ,
Nov 06, 2018 Nov 06, 2018

I was recommended a great book Photoshop Artistry  (CS2 and Beyond) - however the accompanying CD has PSP files that cannot be opened by PS CC - I found a plug-in that purportedly would fix the issue and this got me further In opening) but then PS CC could not parse the PSP file -

anyone know how we can read PSP files in latest version of PS CC - if not then a great work of knowledge has been made obsolete.

If the PSP file are  Photoshop preference files you may be able to just copy them to your Photoshop preferences folder. If there is a file with the same name in your preferences back it up before replacing it.

Photoshop PSP file are Photoshop preference files not an image.  Paint Shop Pro create image file with an extension PSP you may be able to find a Photoshop Plug-in the can\s open Paint Shop Pro PSP files.  Telegraphics - Free plugins for Photoshop & Illustrator...and other software

You may be able to convert them to PSD files Convert PSP to PSD with reaConverter — Batch PSP Converter

Hi JJMack, PTY, all,

the files the OP asked about are Photoshop settings files [like the ones in the screenshot above from CC 2019] - they are not paintshop pro files. But, maybe when double clicked PS thinks they are paintshop files.

The Artistry book included many images the user can self correct following the work throughs.

It’s a really useful way to learn Photoshop IMO. Maybe I'm old fashioned but a book works better as a reference sock that a youtube IMO.

The Artistry book also includes a raft of psp settings files that Photoshop CC cannot open when double clicked as it does not recognise them as settings files.

Maybe they can be imported?

PTY have a look at this link, it may help: Migrate presets, actions, and settings

These settings files are from CS2 I think, I wonder if there are any issues with using them on a latest version?

I'd recommend backing uo the settings files in CC19 before importing just in case.

I've contacted the Artistry writers in the (distant) past and they have been great at helping out.

I hope this helps

if so, please do mark my reply as "helpful" and if you're OK now, please mark it as "correct" below, so others who have similar issues can see the solution

thanks

neil barstow, colourmanagement

Thank you for your time posting - i have now got to this understanding (I am a fairly new PS user) - what the book is asking the reader to do is paste these settings over the current PS settings (etc).

Given the changes to PS since CS2 - would be interested to know if CS2 settings will work with CC 2019 - somewhat loathe to remove currently working settings but Neil's post below (suggesting back-up of existing maybe a way forward).
