Guys, at the moment, the Reference Image option is only available in the beta version.  With a selection in place, go Edit > Generative Fill

If you are using the Contextual Task Bar, click on Generate and the Reference Image button will be there in the next panel.

I am sure the Release version will have the same options in a future release.

I have an assumption that this function only works on the beta version of Photoshop and it is not in the official 26.0

ive seen it in video and all XD
even some youtube video photoshop 2025 ( not beta one ) using image reference generative fill
i check on patchnote just in case and it is not here indeed but ... its not clear too because there is a lot of improvement with those function in patch note and with all the sound around this function we all imagine its here by default.
and if it its only in photoshop beta im ok im not so psychorigid but bruh
since you ask the first time why its not here , since i notice it wasnt and lose litteraly one hour of my life to check why its not working while there is so many video about it
when since litteraly 20days no just a adobe team member à 100 usd sub software just tell us simply ... and let us cook and maybe change useless some settings because of course we want use and test this incredible new function

photoshop is used by world’s software since 20 years and cost kidney and they have no tech guy who can answer something quick .....  im in love with toshop forever but im bit dispointed anyway its working flawless on beta indeed
good generations pals

I'm having the same issue. The Reference image icon is not showing up in the contextual task bar when using generative fill with a selection. Tried this in Photoshop 2024 and 2025.

It only works now when generating a full image, but if you want to use generative fill, it's not there anymore. And it looks like there is no beta for photoshop anymore. I wonder if it there's a way to get around it. It was very helpful!

Thank you Adobe for adding these features and looking forward to using it in a more efficient manner.

i cant see the reference image icon either and there is no beta version available anymore
So you cant select then generate with a reference image to replace what is in the original anymore?
seems like we have gone backwards here
for context i need to update packaging in an old photo to new packaging without having to reshoot

Why?

Half a year later and version 26.8.1 still lacks of this button, but the Adobe Help says exactly to use the reference object button in the task bar...
