Remove Tool not working, Generative Fill working fine – Photoshop 26.10

New Here ,
Sep 15, 2025 Sep 15, 2025

am using Photoshop version 26.10. The Generative Fill feature works perfectly, but the Remove Tool is not working at all. Whenever I try to use the Remove Tool, it either does nothing, shows a program error, or fails to activate. I have already tried changing the Remove Tool Processing to "More Stable" in Preferences and restarted Photoshop, but the issue still persists. Resetting the tool and resetting Photoshop Preferences did not help either. Is anyone else facing this issue in the latest version? Are there any reliable fixes or workarounds, or should I roll back to an earlier version? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hey, @javed_patel4514. I reviewed the account you used to log in and found an active Enterprise subscription.

Hi @javed_patel4514, welcome to the community!

I gave the Remove Tool a quick test on my end and it seemed to be working fine. Are you seeing any error messages when you try to use it? If so, a screenshot would be super helpful.

Also, could you share your System Info with us? You can find it in Photoshop by going to Help > System Info. Just copy the details into a text file and attach it here, or feel free to share it via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or any other file-sharing service you prefer.

Thanks so much! 😊
Alek

Howdy @Aleke , my Remove tool is also not working at all as of today in the latest version of Photoshop and latest Mac OS. I also have followed standard procedure like restarting, setting imaging processing to "More Stable". When I use this tool either it doesn't show the progrees bar at all when I use the tool or the progress bar stalls midway.

Thank You, Marc

Howdy @Aleke , more tool problems as I tried using the content aware fill tool just now. I simply used the pologonal tool to select an area like I always do and nothing happens. Tried using other tools like the magic wand and nothing works. When I attempt to use the content aware fill tool a dialogue box appears saying to use the "Sampling Tool Brush" in order to fill the selected area. Iv'e never seen this dialogue box appear when using the methods I use everyday, etc. I can't even find the sampling tool brush, besides I shouldn't have to use it...   Seems like a bug is going around! Thanks for your help in this matter, Marc

Howdy @Aleke

I normally use the latest regular version of Photoshop, I deceided to use the latest Beta version of Photoshop and used both Content aware fill tool, (using the Polygonal Lasso tool and Magic Wand tool to select an area) and used the Remove Tool and they both work. I quit the program and opened up the regular latest version of Photoshop and tried both same methods and it still doesn't work, it continues to have same issues as described in my prior replies. Before I restarted the computer, this time I shut down the computer completely, waited apx. one minute and started up the computer. Not sure if this is why Photoshop Beta version worked,  but I never used Photoshop Beta until today...etc. I also used "Purge" all history just in case in the regular latest version of Photoshop... I have a Mac Mini M4 Pro late 2024. Thank You, Marc

For @marceagle -

Please ensure there are no stale preferences in your Photoshop. You can go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to back it up. (https://adobe.ly/3u7u84j)

This method is more effective compared to the in-app Reset Preferences at quit method.

macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2025 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2025.old)

This will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a new installation.

Let me know if it helps. Thanks!

Your the Man!!! Your expertise is legend to me Thank You! Everything works, meaning both the Remove tool and content aware fill action run correctly after following your suggestion. I never would have figured this out myself... Have a great week ahead Brother! Marc

Hi javed_patel4514

Same exact problem as of today. I did all the same corrective procedures as you did without any results. I just posted my issue and screenshots, system info etc. with Aleke (Adobe employee), so hopefully this can be resolved quickly as I rely heavily on the Remove tool everyday... Good Luck, Marc
