Renaming image in Save For Web oddity in Photoshop

Hello, this new small anomaly has become annoying. Can anyone suggest a fix? I'm on Mac OS Catalina with Adobe Creative Suite CC. My default is set to Save As a "jpg."

Previously, when I renamed, or Saved As, an image For Web, the Save As window title would be highlighted (blue) but the suffix ".jpg" would remain un-highlighted. In that case, when I changed the generic title to the image, the new name would automatically be saved with the suffix ".jpg" in place. Now, when I Save As, the entire generic title is highlighted, requiring me to type .jpg onto each new title. Attached is an illustration of what I hope is clear.

Hi Eugene,

If the File type in the Save window is already selected as jpeg, then you can simply name the file with out typing any suffix because Photoshop will save the file as jpeg.

Just skip typing extension as already suggested, Photoshop will fill that part. On Windows, recent versions, and Bridge if I can remember, it will highlight only name when you want to rename leaving extension as it is but do not worry it is Bridge and OS, Ps is working differently when saving files.

Image will be saved with suffix, Photoshop will add suffix for you before completing save operation. Check your file after saving, it does have suffix or extension unless it is hidden using preferences on OS.

Hello Bojan,

I will look into that last suggestion. I later noticed a problem incurred by not having the suffix automatically placed on it, even if Photoshop saves it as a jpg (and by "suffix," I mean the proper file extension). In certain programs, like email or text messaging, attaching an image that does not have the suffix will not work. It only sees a ghost of the image and will not attach it. I must go back in and add the suffix which then allows the email to see it. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
