Right-click won't work in latest update

I've been using Photoshop for a over decade, but this latest update has definitely caused some random issues that I simply cannot work with. For device information I am on a 13-inch Macbook Pro M2 (Ventura 13.5), and using a Wacom Intuos Pro M tablet (latest drivers)

I have a button on my stylus set to right-click. Since the last few PS updates whenever I create a path, I cannot right click anywhere on the canvas to select options like fill path, make selection, etc. I used to be able to as this process is almost a habit to me now. Right-clicking anywhere creates a new node which is then the start of a new second path. The only way to select the first path is to right-click on the path itself, which also creates a new anchor point, which THEN gives me the option to fill path, make selection, etc.

Another issue is I have multiple artboards in a file. Typically I can select all of the artboards, even deselecting some that aren't needed, I used to be able to right-click and select "export all". NOW when I right-click it deselects everything and only highlights/selects the artboard that my mouse is over at the time when I click. The only workaround I have found is if I control click, the menu comes up and I am able to export all the same way I used to before.

I've uninstalled PS completely this morning and after booting up I could not right-click at all with either my stylus or my mouse (only control clicking brought up anything.) I have tried rolling back versions of Photoshop, which does brings back the ability to right-click. I have tried rolling back Wacom drivers, which somehow removed the edge softness from the default soft brush. I have looked into tool presets and settings but nothing relates to the right-click problems that I am having.

I honestly can't figure this out. Thanks for your time!

I am having this issue as well with Photoshop 2024.  M1 Max here. The issue is happening only when I am trying to use PS on my Macbook screen (Display 1) and not on my big design monitor. I am trying to build a website on my main screen and use a PSD mockup as my guide on the smaller monitor. This is super frustrating. I has to have something to do with with display Photoshop is running on. I have tried assigning it to different desktops to clear the issue and it's not working.

Go to the mouse settings and add "secondary click" on the right. It brings it back. 🙂

It's not clear who you ared asking your question of.  It's a very old thread, so the other posters are very unlikely to see your post unless you quote them (as I have done with your post) which will cause them to get an email notification (depending on how they have notifications set).

If you were asking @edithd20763562 then she appears to be talking the operating system mouse settings.  As she was not the original poster, we don't know what operating system she is using.  I can't find a Secondary Click on Windows, but Google tells me that Mack systems have that.

It is usually better to start a new thread rather than wake up a very old one.  They have been a bunch of updates since this thread was created, so there is every chance that your issue is unrealted.  Tell us your Photoshop version?  Operating system and version?  Describe your issue in as much detail as it needs. Provide full res screenshots if yoiu think they will be helpful.

Just to add to this thread, I was unable to get the brushes window to popup as it always does with the right-click (with my Wacom stylus) after the latest Sonoma update, but after simply installing the latest Wacom driver, it sorted this issue out. Hope this helps!

Hi! I'm unfortunately here with only more questions and no answers... This has started happening to me on my Windows 10 PC as well. I use both a Wacom Intuos Pro (PTH-660) and a mouse. The mouse's right click works just fine, but using the secondary buttons mapped to a right-click on the Wacom Pen works in the canvas window, but for some reason only registers as a single-click in the layer panel window? It's very confusing... I've also been having other Wacom issues lately in After Effects, but I'll post about that elsewhere..

Never mind... I just solved my own problem. If it helps anyone,  this video explains it. I had "use the pen button as right-click equivalent" disabled, and re-enabling it seemed to fix my issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0Gty6Ckgw0

@Jonathan22865915y6g4  How about the mouse's right click? I know how to edit the Wacom Tablet's right click set up, but does this change the mouse's right click setting as well?

How about the mouse's right click?

hey I had this same problem after moving to a new computer and here's how I solved it...

there are actually 2 places you can update your pen settings. if you just make the button on your stylus right-click in the Wacom app, it won't necessarily apply that to Photoshop. you need to open up wacom settings in your apple system preferences, and at the top it has pen settings PER APPLICATION - so you need to select photoshop up there, and then change your pen buttons.

hope that helped, it was driving me crazy too!

Hi Chad, thank you so much for looking into this.

Right-click seemingly works correctly in other Adobe apps that I use daily (Illustrator and InDesign) I've checked the trackpad settings however I use an Apple Magic Mouse along with the Wacom tablet & stylus pen so the trackpad is actually disabled when the mouse is connected via bluetooth.

No other designer in the office has this righ-click issue that I am dealing with in Photoshop. I've tried explaining it but it just seems that I am unlucky! I have to control+click to bring up the contextual menu for the pen tool, as right-clicking just creates another anchor point separate from the initial path. I also have to control-click to bring up the contextual menu in the layers panel in order to be able to select actions such as "export all" when I select/highlight multiple artboards, if I right-click it simply highlights/selects the layer where my cursor is at the time of the attempted right-click.

I've been told I may have to delete all Adobe files and folders in my OS Preferences folder and re-install everything all over again, however this seems extreme.

Thanks again

Hi - in my case, right-click works perse, but Photoshop is not an option (for example) to use as an alternate for opening a picture file.

I checked secondary settings anyway - but again, right-click works on every option. It's just that Photoshop 24 is not an option (and I removed 23 when installing 24).

Not sure if that's redundant or helpful - but that's all i got... besides the problem. LOL.

Thanks for the suggestion

Hi, I've not been able to reproduce this problem.  Does right-click work in other applications?  Can you check OS Settings: Trackpad: Point & Click > Secondary click?
