This may be a bit of an off topic question for this forum but here goes. My computer setup is in my living room and I use an xrite I1 pro to calibrate the screen. In one corner of my room I have a tier light which is on all of the time. The bulb is a CFL soft white bulb. I was wondering if I should be using a different type like maybe daylight or non cfl.
Hi,
You could have a read of this :

or of this:
- WagnerPrintConsult - Standard Viewing Conditions -
In practice, whilst I do try and use "daylight" lamps for viewing prints, for using Photoshop on screen I find as long as the surrounding lighting is not too bright my eyes adjust to the screen quite happily and I do not worry about the surrounding lamp colour.
I do use the light grey Photoshop theme and a 50% grey background in the Photoshop wind

For viewing prints, you might try the SoLux 4700K light bulbs. At the link below, you might notice several of the names in the testimonials are known as Photoshop trainers and writers.
