RTX 3080 or P4000?

New Here ,
Jan 16, 2021 Jan 16, 2021

Will I have any benefits by using MSI RTX 3080 card with photoshop and Lightroom?

I am now looking for a new graphic card. My first choice was the quadro P4000 until my kids was super happy to get a new gaming computer...
Soo I have to find something that will work for both 😉 .

Hi

You won't really see any difference between the two GPU's, Photoshop is not really a GPU resource intensive application, although with the most recent version it does require higher spec'd GPU's but any GPU with 4GB of VRam will be fine.

I don't use Lightroom so can't really comment on that but I would say it's pretty much the same as Photoshop with regards to the GPU

Either will work well but if you choose the RTX card stick to the Studio Drivers. These are released less frequently but are better tested with graphical applications than the Game-ready drivers.

I had the same dilemma - GeForce RTX3080 or Quadro RTX4000. I was pretty much settled on the Quadro until I started looking at Nvidia's promo material, videos and stuff. My god. That's some serious ai stuff. I mean, Quadro RTX is what they use in self-driving cars to process all the visual information and keep the thing from bumping into dogs and pedestrians.

In the end I chickened out and just ordered a Quadro P2200. Yes, it's an outgoing model and it will be obsolete at some point, but it'll do everything I need in Photoshop for many years still. And you get some good bargains on it now.

I'm going to watch how this plays out here in the forums. I still see a lot of people having driver issues with GeForces. I know Dave here doesn't, so it could well be just a matter of a well-kept and well-maintained system. Dave does a lot of 3D, and extremely well at that, it must be said. So a GTX3080 makes sense there. But Photoshop doesn't need all that computing power.

What I'm keen to know is how reliable the Studio drivers eventually turn out to be, not for some, but across various configurations. I want statistics. If it turns out that they are indeed significantly more reliable than the game drivers, I'm ready for a GeForce next time. For Photoshop use, a GTX1660 or equivalent will do fine for now.

I've never had any issues with the GeForce drivers but like Dave I use the Studio version, my home PC is about eight years old and still runs like new, although there has been many upgrades over the eight years, it still has the original i7 3770K CPU and motherboard. The RTX2060 super runs fine for me with Blender 3D and Photoshop.

Like Ged, I don't suffer from the issues that some seem to report here ( I use an RTX2080ti) but:

- I always use NVidia Studio Drivers

- I never install all the related "Experience" rubbish that comes with the driver updates

- I wait before updating - so I'm usually a driver version or two behind

- I always tick the "Advanced - Clean Install" box to make sure remnants of old drivers are overwritten

Thank you for all answer on this! Looks like I will give the 3080 a chance. At least my kids will be super happy to play the latest games 😅

the vendor says they can deliver it in the beginning of February. I'll keep you all updates how it goes. I will also share details about my rig.
