Do any of the older Photoshop versions like 5, 6, or 7 have the ruler tool hidden in the eye dropper tool sub menu?

Yes, still under the Eyedropper and was called the "Measure Tool" back in the day. This is PS 6.0.1

I don't remember when the Ruler tool was introduced, but I think it was always in the same tool group as the eye dropper.

I don't know about v6.0 but it was certainly there in 7.0 (just checked a very old book)

Interestingly enough, my copy of PS 6 can run from anywhere, even a Flash drive and under Windows 10. After that, Adobe locked it down.

Indeed Dave, I'm running it out of my Documents folder.   I keep it as a novelty.

The other sticking point is that since Terabyte drives were not a common item then, 7 and earlier will not recognize that amount of drive capacity.

As far as i know the Measure Tool (Ruler Tool) was introduced in photoshop 5.

Before that one could use the Line Tool to measure distance/angles.

This is becoming a "who can a show a screenshot of a measure tool from the oldest Photoshop" thread

Hope Noel doesn't see it - we may see version 1.0 !

Not unless Noel has an old Apple Macintosh. I don't think Windows got Photoshop until v 3.

Yes 2.5 was the first. I wonder why Photoshop system requirements never included it.

My first version (on Windows) was 2.5... (and it was love at first sight...)

Hah!  We get so wound up with the Internet, that we forget our book shelves.  I used to have older Photoshop books, but I decided they were pointless and gave them to the Camera Club library (where they are still pointless)

I did check Wikipedia's Photoshop Version History at the beginning of this thread, but I was searching for Ruler.  Knowing the right name for the tool shows it was introduced with version 5 (Strange Cargo) in 1998
