'Save as' dialogue box not opening in latest version of photoshop

Hi all, new photoshop user here. Everything has been working fine on photoshop up until today, I was messing around with images and went to click 'save as' but nothing happens, the box just doesn't appear. The text in the dropdown 'File' menu briefly goes gray as if it is loading something but then just becomes black again and no save as options appear.

I have the latest version (21.1.3) of photoshop, working on windows 10. Have tried resetting preferences, have uninstalled and reinstlled photoshop twice, still not working. I even scanned my computer health in 'command prompt' but nothing wrong there either. Was not having this problem a few days ago the last time I was using photoshop. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I was able to fix it! I followed a tip on this post about renaming the UXP folder:

Works perfectly now!

Save as Copy

Um, ok? The problem was windows opening off-screen when a Mac user had a second display. I believe this has long since been fixed.

You'll perhaps want to check "Enable legacy Save As" in file handling Preferences

I hope this helps

I managed to resolve it in my case.

First of all the reason why it stopped working.

- Restarted Window. Cliked to open a file in PhotoShop that was stored on my Google Drive. However Google Drive was not running at that moment. The file disappeared from the quickload panel.

- Then when I opened any other faile and clicked on save or save as Photoshop froze but was apparently not crashing. Had to manually kill it with Task Manager.

Solution:

I openen Google Drive again and started the file directly from Windows Explorer (open with Photoshop). It loaded it into Photoshop and after that Save/Save As was working normally.

I FOUND A WORKAROUND!!!! (for Apple devices) If "Save as" window does not pop up try going to File - Share - Air Drop it to your other apple device.

I was having this trouble with the 2022 version. No dialog box when clicking and of the File>Save options. I'm a Mac user and went to Photoshop>Prefrences>File Handling>Default File Location drop-down and select On your computer. After I hit ok, I tried saving again and the dialog box appeared! Hope this helps someone.

I was having the same problem with the "save as" command.

So I got a hunch that maybe it had something to do with saving files on the Adobe cloud.

Since I don't save my files on the Adobe cloud, I decided to turn off my wifi.

And with the wifi off, I can now use the "save as" command.

This is a workaround that works but only if you save files to a local hard drive.

Adobe really needs to fix this problem.

Its now May 18th 2022, and I have a Macbook Pro M1 with latest version of PS installed and having the same issue. All popup dialog boxes are hidden. Any solution as of yet?

Working on my 21 MacBook Pro running Monterey 12.1 and running Photoshop 2022.

Anytime I go to "transform" or "save" Photoshop seems to freeze. A dialouge box is open in the background but I cannot see it. I only know its open because if I hit "return" (enter) it pops up for a split second and I can use the program freely again. This is an extremely annoying inconvinence and I need to fix this ASAP. I have no idea what the box is prompting me to do which makes this even more difficult to troubleshoot.

I tried renaming the "UXP" folder as mentioned above but I can't seem to find it.

Anybody got any suggestions?

I am having the same issue. Seems to mostly be happeneing when working in large files (20+GB). This has been going on since I got my new Mac in March and the last Photoshop update... so I can't tell which is to blame. But it is killing me to have to recreate these large files because I cannot get them to save and I am having to force quit PS.

I had a solve for a bit where I was saving the file before I started building it, that way it had a location to save to when I used Command + S but that seems to have stopped working... please help! I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling PS.

I am having this same issue right now! I have 5 files opened that are NOT saving. When I click save, save as, export- NOTHING pops up and it will not save. I do not want to have to re-create all of these files and go through the same thing. I am really at my wits end trying to figure how to save without having to force-quit and lose all of my wotk

Hi,

Did everything listed here, there and everywhere. Got adobe support to remote login. After a few hours and many attempts they tell me it's my monitor. Somehow they made my monitor longer compatible with photoshop.

A Benq PD 2710QC. Designed specificaly for colour work. I don't how they did it but here we are.

So a heads up. If you are planning on an external monitor for your MacBook Pro ask Adobe if they are planning on making incompatible with any of their products.

Hey! This is exactly same to me!

You see I've posted 2 posts here, until I read your this reply.

I tried to un-plug the external monitor from my Macbook, then I can see the "Save As" dialog!

But, the problem is, I have done nothing, the external monitor has been connecting to my Macbook for weeks, and everything has been working well, until hours ago, suddenly, the Save As window won't appear any more, it is so weird.

Do you have a solution right now? I don't think I can work without an external monitor...

Thank!

Can you check your system specs -- how much RAM etc.

Did you reset your preferences under the General tab in Photoshop preferences ?

Yes I have reset the preferences and then restarted photoshop but still all the same issues. My laptop is a HP envy notebook from 2014, it's getting old and it was never meant for running heavy softwares but it was running photoshop just fine up until now.

Some specs:

HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC

Processor: AMD A10-5750M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.50GHz

Installed RAM: 8.00 GB (7.21 GB usable)

Let me know if there's any other information I should provide! Apologies if there's something I'm missing.

Do you have any third-party plug-ins – a Font manager maybe?

I suggest you unistall Photoshop, using the drop-down menu in the Creative Cloud app,  then run Adobe Cleaner before reinstalling Photoshop again. Here's a link to Cleaner: https://helpx.adobe.com/uk/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
Let us know how you get on.

Thank you for the response, I ran the cleanup tool after uninstalling photoshop then re-installed it, (did 'clean all') but unfortunately I still have the same problem. I should also mention that the buttons 'New' and 'Open' are also not working, and that when I open photoshop I do not have the usual start screen showing recent projects, it is just a blank grey screen with the toolbar at the top of the page. I do not have any third party plug-ins either.
