Save for web "A write permissions error has occurred " after updating Ventura, Photoshop v24.5

I just updated my Mac OS to ventura, opened photoshop and tried to keep my workflow... but when I try to Save for web an error message appears "Could not complete this operation. A write permissions error has ocurred". I already reset photoshop preferences, increased memory usage on photoshop preferences, restarted my mac and looked at community threads, but I do not use or have installed Dropbox.

I also tried to Save for web on my google drive, same error.

Hi @marcelov29722114

Go to Apple System Settings/Security and Privacy/Full Disk Access and make sure PS is listed and active.

Hi Cory

Thank you for the response. I have solved the problem by removing Microsoft OneDrive from my Macbook. After I completed its removal, the Save for Web functioned perfectly. I

Just some further feedback - changed my cloud backup to iCloud and this does not interfere with Save for Web so I am sorted out.

To answer your question, I am using PS Desktop 25.1.0.

Regards

Jon

You don't yet know what the problem is. You'll need to troubleshoot to figure that out first. Kill OneDrive, see if that fixes it. Then you'll have an answer.

ExUsa-

I have disabled and re-enabled OneDrive multiple times on this device, which has not lead to the gif saving out via Save for Web or Export (Export will save it, but not as a working gif) Even if that did fix it, it would just create more problems as my user relies on OneDrive (formerly Google Drive) to pull assets into their projects and losing OneDrive would significantly impact their workflow. I know the problem is probably some nonsense with Adobe and Cloud Storage, but due to the nature of my user's workflow I cannot have one without the other. If you have any other forum posts to direct me to that may have answers or troubleshooting tips, please feel free to send them my way.

You can search through this forum but I'm not sure you'll get much other advice. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

I haven't tested this extensively, but saving over an existing file seemed to have cleared the error for me...at least once, anyway. I wouldn't hold my breath that that's a way around it, but anything is worth a try at this point since many of us have no way around OneDrive for corporate reasons.

I fixed this in a quite quick and simple way, after trying all the other suggested ways ( restarting, updating, giving Photoshop all the access, resetting preferences...) and I did this WHITOUT removing One drive or Dropbox.

The most reliable immediate fix is to circumvent the legacy "Save for Web" function's path memory by forcing a new save location dialog.
  • Use the "Export As" function: This is the modern replacement for "Save for Web (Legacy)" and often uses a different export mechanism/dialog.
    • Go to File > Export > Export As... and select your desired format (JPEG, PNG, GIF) and quality settings in the modern interface. And save this file somewhere locally like your desktop.
    • Then I went back to do the safe for web again and it worked!: Initiate File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)...
