I am looking to print a photo that is originally 48" X 48" on a printer that is 42" wide at the maximum. Any thoughts to scaling it down to 48" X 42?

To scale it down proportionally will get you 42 X 42. To get 48 X 42 you will need to crop two of the sides. ( or 6in off 1 side, top or bottom)
