Serial number invalid

I bought a copy of Photoshop CS6 on eBay. Copy looks legitimate, Adobe packaging, etc. However, when I attempt to install it says my serial number is invalid. The number is printed clearly on the box, language is correct. Why doesn't this just work????!!!!

Hi

It is a long time since I bought boxed software with discs, in recent years it is usually a download. However, looking back at those when I did (the last being Photoshop CS) - none has the serial number on the box. The serial number in each version I've just checked, is on the CD cover inside the box. If you don't have that, or that number does not work,  I would be going back to the seller.
