Set/Clear/Read Document "dirty" property

The latest in my series of futile and/or unanswerable questions...

It appears that Photoshop marks a document as 'dirty' (i.e. puts '*' after the name on the title bar and tabs, prompts for save on exit, etc) whenever a filter plugin executes without error, regardless of whether it actually changed anything. And yes, I realize that PS has no way of actually knowing, short of comparing pixels before/after, which would likely entail a huge performance hit.

So my question is, is it possible for a filter or automation plugin to query/modify that property?

Ok, I'm giving up on this one. It appears that the only thing that clears the IsDirty property is a 'Revert' event. Even Undo or StepBackward all the way to the Revert/Open leaves it set.

Ok, found how to query it...question remains: is it possible to set it, so as to suppress the 'save on exit' behavior?

I don't think there is a way to clear document's Dirty status short of Undo/Revert.
