In what context did you find this one, jthornton42?

Many shortcuts have been changed over time for many reasons—sometimes to make them more consistent with other Adobe applications; sometimes for other reasons. You can customized your shortcuts in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.

The one that was hardest for me to get used to was when they took away Cmd+1 to change to the Red Channel and assigned it to Actual Size, but I did get used to it.

Well, I updated Adobe CC this morning and Photoshop is COMPLETELY changed. I was a bit wrong in the above post though. I've learned that the transform proportionately, where it used to be done by holding shift, is now the OPPOSITE with holding shift NOT doing that. Backwards.

Add in the other changes/bugs I've encountered in just a few hours: can't see where you are highlighting text, transform tools that have no visible controls and more.

Hi jthornton42

Yes, Transform is now proportional by default, by that can be turned off. I was at the round table yesterday and heard a lot of this, but only have an iPad here at MAX. Check in the Options bar if you want to distort it and disable this feature. If its not there, check Preferences.

Clicking outside a modal dialog such as Transform now commits it.

The widget for rotate is hidden by default, but can be turned on. So many new users would grab the center of rotation widget and drag it, expecting to move the the pixels, especially since that‘s how Illustrator works.

The Adobe MAX website will have a What’s New in Photoshop after that session. Terry White usually has a What’s New, and so does lynda.com, now linkedinlearning.com. Be sure to watch these to learn the new features.

The thing is the shift modifier has always be the constrain key for tools.  Now for the Transform the constrain modifier key becomes the unconstraint key and messes their users  work-flow that use Shift to constrain  transform to the current aspect ratio.   Its the Adobe way to mess with the users work flow. Add a stupid change do thing backward do thing wrong. Like using Esc to commit error in text  instead of canceling the error before it is committed.  At least they  added a preference to let change that back,  Thus time you need to add a PSUseConfig.txt entry in your preference folder to fix transform.

On the other hand, Photoshop now works more like Illustrator and InDesign.

I'd rather ID and Illustrator work more like Photoshop. My opinion.

That fine for illustrator users give them an option to change the way things work. Why mess with Photoshop users work flow. Now I need to change a Photoshop preference to turn the origin point on.  That should have been the default setting and I also need add and additional entry in PSUserConfig.txt in my CC 2019 preferences folder to have the constrain key work correctly not backwards.  AI user instead should need to add an entry to make the Constrain key work backwards in transform.

Well I believe both ESC for text and Transform Proportional (by default) are the bees knees.

It’s hard to get used to changes, I’ll be the first to agree! I started using PS with version 3.0, just after layers were added. Do we still want text that is just pixels on a layer? Not me. Some changes have been harder than others, and I expect it will take me forever to get used to multiple undos! But I do love proportional scaling by default. I teach new users and I tell them the steps to scale are as follows:

  1. Shift plus a corner handle
  2. Look in the options bar and confirm the W and H are the same
  3. Then and only then commit the edits.

And still the images are distorted!

The thing is  multiple undo's and multiple redo's is not new They  have been around for many version of Photoshop. Short  cut keys  "Shift+Ctrl+Z" step back in history one step  at a time you can step back  to the beginning of your history steps one at a time and with shortcut  "Ctrl+Alt+Z" Step forward in history one step at a time you can redo each step you undid..

The Shift Modifier key was known as the constrain key it will constrain tools like the rectangle marquee to and the rectangle tool to Square and the Elliptical tools to a circle and the line tools to horizontal or vertical or  +- 45 degree lines.  and on course the transform  to a constrained resize.   Now the shift key for one tool work the opposites way it does for tall other tools.  Its not a change I want to live with I added "TransformProportionalScale 0" to my PSUserConfig.txt" file in my CC 2019 Preferences folder.

Agreeing with much of what is said here. To change the shift key to work opposite of the way it has worked for years, and opposite the way almost every other program uses it, is bizarre and pointless to me. Change is good... but not always.

Oh and now I just noticed you work for Adobe so I will proceed with full rant .... firstly I am interested to know if Adobe does independent market research and testing worldwide before changing key functions? In my group of fellow users (approx 20) all of them are finding this a frustrating change, even the newer users. I have been using Adobe products for over 20 years now and while I do like some of new implementations, there are way too many changes to the basic functions (moving location of tools, making new features default like the stupid rounded corner thing, changing functions etc). Now if I was a student, or I am a casual user of photoshop this would be fine. But I’m not. I don’t have time to watch videos, commit to learning or changing habits, when I have clients/CD/boss breathing down my neck (I am currently writing my rant on a Sunday morning). It’s completely frustrating and time wasting - and time is money. Secondly why would Adobe make a change to a shortcut so that it does the exact opposite? It’s kinda seems like it was done because Micrcosoft have recently changed to proportionally scaling without shfit key, as well. Too bad for people who’ve stepped away from the tools for a while - getting back to high function work flow will take ages.
