Simple shift drag still does not work in Photosop

System:

New Macbook Pro 16 inch M4 Max

Sequoia 15.5

64GB Ram

Photoshop:

26.7.0

Issue:

I just newly installed the latest version of Photoshop to my new machine. I was hoping the issue I have had for over a year now would finally be solved but no. There is a FRUSTRATING bug in Photoshop involving clicking and constrained dragging. Here is what I do:

- I select an object

- I select the pointer tool

- I hold the SHIFT key and drag to constrain movement

When I drop the object it does not stay in the position it was dragged to. Instead, it simply snaps back to its original position. This also happens if I SHIFT drag with the option key held down to duplicate an object.

This is not a new issue and I am still confused that I cannot get an answer to the issue.

When you use a modifier key - in this case shift / option, you must release the mouse or whatever you are using FIRST, then the modifier key or it won't work. When using a mouse it's almost instant and not noticiable. However, when using something like a trackpad - which is what I use, you have to pause for a little longer, like a 1/2 a second and then release the keyboard. This may not be your issue but I would encourage you to try it. Also - try resetting preferences.

Hey @kd360

I can’t reproduce the issue on my end. Could you please share a screenshot or video of the problem? In the meantime, I’m moving your post to the discussions for additional help from the community.

I think that is the issue. It must have changed recently. I never had this issue before and my muscle memory is used to doing this action in one way. By now consciously changing my method as you describe the issue seems to have been resolved. Thank you!

Start dragging then then hit Shift, and yes release the mouse button. It works fine for me on multiple Macs.
