Sizing an image 1:1 without a scale

New Here ,
Oct 04, 2019 Oct 04, 2019

I receive photos of fingerprints without a scale present and need to 'size' the image 1:1 for searching purposes. How do I do that with the new Adobe Creative Cloud PS?

Hi

You can use the Measurement Scale and Ruler tool in Image > Analysis to measure elements in the image. But, first you need to have a known measurement in the image from which you can set the scale or you need to know, and manually enter, the scale based on pixels per given unit of length.

If you know the focal length of the lens used, the sensor size and the exact distance to the subject it would be possible to mathematically work out a ppi to give a 100% subject to image relationship, but

Hi there,

Here's how you can resize your image according to the image: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/photoshop/using/resizing-image.html

Hope that helps!

Thanks,

Akash

Maybe my question wasn't stated very well. I need to 'determine' the size of the print (or image) in a photo so I can then size it.

Hi. Thank you Dave. That is very helpful. I didn't think there was a way without a reference or without it being very difficult. A known measurement in the image is what's never there in these situations, so I will just do the best I can without being able to do that. I wish someone would create a 'sizing filter' like we had for a previous version but I haven't been able to find out. Thanks again!

Hi

Which version had a “sizing filter” and what was it called?

It wasn't a part of PS. It was an addon that I got from an institute that I went to for training. It was on CD. I think I still have the CD

See if you can find the CD and get the name of the filter. The company may have an updated version online (or possibly the version of the filter that you have will continue to work). Otherwise, use @Davescm’s method.

I don't have the filter on CD. Not where I thought it was. I do still have it on my old computer in PS CS4. I'm going to see if IT can help me get more info on it off of my computer on Monday. I'll be in touch. It was from the Institute For Forensic Imaging, which I don't believe exists anymore. It's called an IFI Sizing Paramter Filter. I would send you a screenshot but I don't think I can here.

Hi
Is this it? https://www.respondercorp.com/2018/02/02/institute-for-forensic-imaging/ You can send screenshots to this forum, btw, if you click the blue Reply button on your first post or edit one made from the black Reply button.

I don't believe that's the same. I went there in like 2001 and don't remember the address. If I can get you a copy of that filter off of my old computer is there a chance of developeing something like it. I'm going to try and send a screenshot

Hi ceakinsjr,

Feature requests for Photoshop should be made here for the engineers to see:

https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family

In the meanwhile, use the method that @davescm gave you earlier.
