Slow performance after installing recent update of Photoshop

Hello, I've used PS in my profession for many years and had a pause but now this year I got it again and downloaded this new version PS 2025 and it's absolutely trash, I'm sorry developers. I have the newest Macbook M4 and it slows my whole system down, the loading time is a nightmare it's like im suddenly in a early 2000's PC. I don't have many other apps on my system which would slow it down. It's an absolute nightmare and some features are gone for example the "circle" and magic wand is also gone, like really?
I want the older version and don't this newest one. How do I download it?

Hi @Everything is bonkers

Sorry to hear about the trouble with the latest Photoshop update — I completely understand how frustrating that can feel, especially when performance slows down. I’m assuming you’re referring to the latest release (Photoshop 2026, v27.0).

Sometimes, a new install can run into issues if the installation wasn’t completed properly or if macOS permissions are missing — both are easy to fix. Here’s what I suggest:

Hi @Everything is bonkers

Sorry to hear about the trouble with the latest Photoshop update — I completely understand how frustrating that can feel, especially when performance slows down. I’m assuming you’re referring to the latest release (Photoshop 2026, v27.0).

Sometimes, a new install can run into issues if the installation wasn’t completed properly or if macOS permissions are missing — both are easy to fix. Here’s what I suggest:

1. Check system requirements:

2. Clean reinstall Photoshop:

  • Uninstall Photoshop completely using the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.

  • Reinstall Photoshop from the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

  • From the same app, you can also install a previous version if you prefer.

3. Check macOS permissions:

  • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Files and Folders / Full Disk Access, and ensure Photoshop has all necessary permissions enabled.

Once done, try launching Photoshop again and see if the issue improves.

Regards,

Srishti

Thank you for a fast answer, that's really sweet. I'll try the steps, but if they don't work is there a possibility to download an earlier version like from 2024 or back?

I'm sorry for my frustration though. I just dont really need all of these features. I can imagine they are great for the broader public/costumers/community but for me (im old school) it's like an ocean of things I don't have time to learn. I jsut want a fast workflow with my magic wand now it's only two options in it (you know when it automatically removes stuff).

I see that my answer has been marked as correct, so I’m hoping the issue is now resolved for you. To answer your question about previous versions — yes, you can download older versions from the Creative Cloud desktop app. However, the only versions currently available are 2026, 2025, and 2021 (22.2). Steps are shared here: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/apps/download-install-apps/creative-cloud-apps/install-prev...

And, I completely understand how frustrating it can be to have missing tools, especially when you rely on them in your daily workflow.
