Hi,

Thanks to all who took part in our Christmas tree decorating challenge. This week, we have something a little different. I give you three musical notes. A musician might put them on a stave and play them, but what can you create with them? Will it be "A Sharp" way to show your skills or will it "B Flat" ? Whether your skills are "Major" or "Minor" - come and join in.

The “rules”:

* Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright etc

* Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum "regulars".

* There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off, or bring a bit of humour and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!

To download the image below which has the notes against a transparent background, hover over the image and click on the circle with the arrows at the top right. Then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).

When posting back your image – please use the blue reply button in this first post. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry then please use the grey reply button next to their image post.

Have fun

A musician might put them on a stave...

By @davescm

In the U.S., though, musicians would put them on a staff ! 😊

I'm thinking I probably need to apologise right off the bat to those people who know this is a nonsense, but the thought was there.

The young man, who was interested in natural history, was sitting on the porch one June evening with his best girl, who was interested in music. The rhythmic shrilling of the insects pulsed on the air, and from the village church down the street came the sounds of choir practice.

The young man gave his attention to the former, the girl to the latter; and presently she spoke eagerly: “Oh, don't it sound grand!”

The young man nodded, and answered: “Yes, indeed! and it's interesting to think that they do it all with their hind legs.”

Dave, I tried to work this out in my head, and then I found an online piano and tried it there. I don't recognize the tune, so I'm glad you gave us three options. For now, I'll have to go with Option #3. 😊

Is the F# with no F notes a clue?

I used my "phone-a-friend-lifeline", Dave, and have found the opening chord from Black Sabbath's "Paranoid":

Very clever and very nicely done! 😊

That song is going to be in my head all night now.  Did you know the album is more than 50 years old now?!   My brothers and I blew up my dad's hifi speakers with the first track on Black Sabbath while he was out fishing.  We were so impressed with the the bit where Ozzy screams 'Ooooooh noooooo!' ( @2:15 first track) that we moved the speakers to the window and played it flat out till the tweeters could produce nothing bu white noise.  Dad was NOT impressed.

Excellent Ged. Really stylish and classy.  You have the depth perfect and good perspective note by note — the central note has thhe highlight top and centre, whereas camera right the highlight is a bit to our left just as would happen with a single light source high and centre.  I like the textures and reflections as well.  A really nice job.
